It's suffered a serious of setbacks as I've tried to recruit various Computer Vision experts to work on the project, unsuccessfully. There was a possible Open Source implementation which sorta kinda works, but is not really usable, so that work was also fruitless. I'm now partnering with a Linux project that has a working PSVR tracker. We'll port that to Windows and get it to "production quality" over the next months. I'll be having a detailed look at the progress next week, so will probably have a better idea of timescales after that. At a guess, we're probably looking at a release of early December.

I've heard that because PSVR will be compatible with PS5, they will sell the USB adapter. So in the end it can be also easily connected to PC.

There is a lot of PS4 camera drivers:

It takes quite a lot more than a camera driver to get a working 6DOF tracking system. The Linux project's tracker is working for PSVR and PSMove. Now we will port that to Windows and do some UI/UX work.

I do have a working ps4 camera and aux converter, if there's any need I'm willing to help testing, best wishes for your hard work :)

How would one join this effort? I have time and the knowledge necessary...

The Linux project is Monado. If you wanted to help, that would be the place to do it. Specifically, the PSVR camera tracking needs to be ported to Windows and made into a standalone library.

If anyone wants to play around with that version:

I just came here to say it's nice to see discussion about the development by the devs.

Some adapters available at the moment:

So when this is completed, do you think it will be superior to 4 PS3 eye cameras?

I expect so, or Sony would have sold the PSVR with 4 PS3 eye cameras instead of the PS4 stereo camera.
Well 4 PS3 Eye cameras is objectively more difficult to set up for the end user. So Sony would go with the easier, "good enough" option.

Well, the PS4 camera is a higher resolution synchronised stereo camera, it has at least 2 advantages over the PS3 camera. Not really interested in debating the merits of both though, happy you have something that works for you.
