What is driver mode?
In the mobile app’s settings, there’s a setting called driver mode. What is that and what’s the difference between Direct and virtual?

These are different interfaces that a HMD driver can use to talk to SteamVR. Historically, "direct" mode was available before "virtual" mode, and was the interface iVRy used when it first came out. In general you wouldn't change this unless you ran into a compatibility issue with a particular VR title. Technically the driver modes use different code paths in SteamVR, the "direct" mode interface uses the "Oculus" code path and "virtual" mode uses the "Vive" code path.
