Voidmancer, opinions wanted
Hi, I've been experimenting with Voidmancer for some time now. While I do earn mysteries that way, I would really like to hear your thoughts on my setup. And if nothing else, it might even be helpful for someone who's struggling to finally break the e200 mysteries barrier. :)

I am currently at 632 points to distribute:
Int 75, Insight 175, Spellcraft 150+, Wisdom 75, Mastery 75, Empathy 75

Items: Empowering Shoulderguard, Circlet of Deep Thoughts, Minituarized Accelerator, Pompous Tunic, Conjured Claws, Whiplash, Colorful Belt, Spell Helix, Spell Shards Fractalization, Legacy, Anima Core, Arcane Engine

Question: Legacy gives +40 on Insight. If I put 175 points (my current cap) into it, will the extra +40 have any effect, or can I put those points somewhere else?

Spells: RoP, Voidbolt, Spell Focus, Void Elemental, Ebon, Gem Resonance

Pet: Voidterror.

This works reasonably well, even though my items are far from being fully upgraded (I discovered the items relatively late in my game, so I guess I wasted quite a few ressources, simply by never using them and never collecting new ones).

Buildup phase:

First I use Spellhound + Void Prison and Void Automaton (Spellhound speeds up the automaton) to gain levels. Then I switch to Homunculus to buy sources. When the Homunc is done, I switch to Voidfiend/Voidterror. I also switch out Spell Shards Fractalization for Void Sampling and use Nectoric Powerstone + Anomalous Essense as trophies. Void Prison instead of Voidbolt and Winged Night for Manabeast/Void Elemental. I reach about 1.00e21 Void Mana, then I switch to burst items/spells, and set all spells on reckless.

I also noticed that I get more Mana per sec when I invest all my catalysts in Mana Gems.

I went from about 1.00e190 to 1.00e205 now, after a few exiles. But I am pretty sure that there's lots of potential to make this build even better and I would really like to hear your thoughts, because it seems like I am capping out at e205 mysteries. :)

Minituarized Accelerator has ben killed.
Miniaturized Accelerator replaced it :B

No I don't have anything constructive to say. :D

You don't seem to mention Reality Warping. You can use it to add a build-up phase to your run where you use Interrogator or Archivist as pet and cast loads of juiced-up Void Syphons to build up your character ability (plus XP).

On the other hand, you may want to switch to a new class. I think you are getting towards the edge of Voidmancer's effectiveness (without unreasonable amounts of upgraded items for a first realm).

Oh, I also looked at your stat distribution. I would drop the Wisdom (you don't need it) and put the points into Empathy (remember that Empathy = more Void Mana).

In general, note that the level 150 bonuses for each attribute are very powerful. With about 650 points, you would usually want to have 4 stats at 150. Meeting the requirements for items is a competing factor, but at this point your items are not that strong yet.

Thanks for your input. I am at 209 mysteries right now after the changes to the stats (up from 207, which I reached yesterday). I'll see how long I can use this, as it's very convenient right now. No long build-up (apart from waiting for Homunculus to finish) and I get around e2 mysteries per exile, and could potentially exile multiple times a day. So the runs aren't really all that long.

I used the guide here on steam, made by LotusBlade, and followed it all the way to e300 mysteries. Its good, you should give it a looky :)

You know, it never occured to me to look at the guides here on Steam, I only ever looked at the Idle Wizard wiki... Thanks for the tip. :D

Answer: Yes, the +40 will still help you. I don't believe you'll get Perks, but it still gives you the base and it would allow you to equip items requiring higher Insight than your cap (but I think there's only one item in the game that applies to: Spellweaving Kilt).

You need to continue to invest in getting new items. There are better choices and you want to see more of what you have available before you start upgrading. Your trophies, research, Legacy, and Claws are all good items, though I would generally use Legacy for boosting void mana and not for my mana burst phase. Whiplash is great, especially when using Voidfiend. Helix is probably good (I don't have it upgraded), but Shoulderguard is the worst of all the power equipment so I would only use it if I needed it to reach a set bonus (or if I had nothing better for shoulder). The rest are all questionable, though eventually Accelerator gets good for burst. You definitely want more void gear for the void boosting phase. You should also look into pet gear and character gear (anything that looks off-white in color; it doesn't form a set), and both power gear and time-traveler gear are good for burst. Additionally, time-traveler gear is indispensable for Chronomancer and Temporalist, and Chronomancer is really good at e200 so it's a decent investment.

Necrotic Powerstone is not something I'd use. Anima is much better for void boosting because it empowers Void Lure/Prison/Radiance. I'd use Essence and Anima if boosting void mana without a void pet, or Essence and Gland if boosting void mana with a void pet. In general, anything that ups your incantation or VMPE is what you want for void boost gear. Also, if you're using Voidfiend to generate mana, you need to balance your void gear with a touch of pet gear. Anything that improves pet ability power will improve your void mana gains so some of the pet gear is actually more valuable than incantation boosters (but only when using Voidfiend or similar). If and only if I'm with a void generating pet, my mana boost gear is going to include Whiplash, Collar of Obedience (a waist item), and Hollow-Eye Pendant because those will generate significantly more void than incantation boosters (I think with a void pet, HEP is even better than Nether Chain, which is designed to increase void, but I don't have the latter to legendary yet to check).

Your stats seem good though I should mention getting 150 Intellect becomes very important once you unlock Resonator Ring, which is by far and away the best item in the game. At epic or higher it will add four levels of enchantment to any unique or legendary item that has at least one purchased level in it.

Also, it may be a mistake to dump all your catalysts into Gems just because they happened to be best at one particular time, unless you have the nullifiers to reset them later (in which case it's fine). You're going to be reliant on more than one strategy once Gem Resonance no longer helps, and in some cases Gems will be worthless. (For one, you won't know that Gem Resonance isn't the way to go anymore if you've dumped everything into Gems when you're trying to assess what works best.) It's true that for many of the T1 classes your burst will include GR, though, so it's a good strategy temporarily—just remove the catalysts or even them out before you try to reassess what your strategy should be when things change.
