Tottaly agree with this. i am too following a guide cause progressing without it ,its a little like a shot in the dark.
Sure, following the guide is faster. It's obvious, it has been made with the experience of people.
But you know, we did it without a guide, it just took some trials and errors, so you can definitely do it too.
Don't follow blindly the guide, but experiment too, you might find interesting stuff.
To give you an example, when I started, the strategy to complete Like The First Time was to use homunculus to buy only mana gems and wait for mana to roll in.
It was THE official strategy told by countless older players.
A new player (maybe copying someone, I don't know, but still) decided to use something else, and we cut down the time for LtfT from a few hours to 15 minutes.
So, eh, don't be afraid to experiment, you might find something better :)
Even though you may be right, it's tough to take someone seriously when you could play the entirety of a church hymn on the top set of their chutney-chompers.
Prodigy+spellhound PP,ATL,TS,KBB, void lure and spell focus. When at max charges you can switch to devourer for mystery power and than switch back to spell hound and get max charges rinse and repeat.
