Persistent Spells
So I noticed in the "Info" tab of the spell selection that it tracks five spells that the came calls persistent. True Sorcery, Rules of Nature, Nightfall, Missile Storm, and Temper the Steel.

Am I to understand then that the results of those spells aren't reset during an exile, and will continue to follow me? Otherwise, whats the difference between a persistent spell such as Nightfall that increases profit and a Accumulated spell such as Ritual of Power?

Or does just the count follow me? So if I cast 5 Nightfalls in one playthrough and then reset, the next time I cast Nightfall it will count as my 6th cast, but I won't have the benefits of 5 Nightfalls following me until then?

The passive part of the spell is persistent. The active part is not.

For instance,

Nightfall active: Increases profits (not persistent)
Nightfall passive: Increases charging speed (persistent)

which means that each time you cast Nightfall, it will charge faster. The benefit of casting Nightfall over Ritual of Power is that eventually your Nightfall charging speed will be so fast that it's better than RoN. Nightfall also charges other charging spells like Synthetic Entity.

It means exactly that: the keep all benefits of persistent spells, even through exile. True Sorcery for example yields massive amounts of levels once you spent enough time casting it a bunch.

Its the bonus that gets saved not the amount of casts. Take missile storm for example its the casts on other spells that gets saved.

Each persistent spell has two bonus.
One is the "accumulated" part. It works just like any accumulated spell, it becomes stronger with each cast this run.
One is the passive, which is persistent across exiles.

The passive bonus is usually effective as long as the spell is on your spellbar. The only exception is JMS whose passive requires JMS to be cast.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thank you so much for your clarifications! That made absolute sense to me!

This game seemed so overly complicated when I first started it, but the more I play the more I appreciate how well the developers managed to incorporate so many strategies and play styles. Sometimes the explanations and systems confuse me though...so it's nice to be able to reach out to veterans like you guys for clarifications! Thanks! :-)

True Sorcery increases your experience gained during Prodigy playthroughs. If you have it in the bar, it increases your profits from sources based on number of times cast this exile, but it also increases experience whether it is in the bar or not, based on the number of times it has ever been cast, unless you hard reset.

No, that's wrong. You need True Sorcery on your spellbar to get the experience bonus.
It's the same way for all persistent spells : You need to have them on your spellbar to benefit from the passive.

True. But since the bonus is retroactive, it's close to irrelevant when you equip it.

Though, Persistent Spell Bonus is active only for that class, and only for the spell it refers to, right?
Like: Nightfall's passive effect works only for Necromancers' runs, and affects charging speed of all non-shard based spells BUT it has to be in the spells' bar.
As, Ironsoul can't benefit from Nightfall's increased charging speed.
Is it correct?

The bonus is only active when the spell is on the bar and it can't be on the bar if the class doesn't have access to that spell. The tier 2 classes are each made from 2 of the tier 1 classes and keep their spells. So yes, Ironsoul can't benefit from Nightfall but Shaman does.

Anyone that can get the spell benefits from its bonus.
The class has no impact on it whatsoever.

Again thats incorrect the spell has to be on the spell bar, so if the persistant spell isn't part of your class it cant be on your spell bar so you cant benefit.

Yes, you need to have the spell, but spells aren't tied to only one specific class. So if you cast Rules on Nature as Druid, the persistent casts will carry over when playing Shaman, for instance.

There are also a few challenges that allows access to out-of-class spells, which can include persistents.

anyone know the count for the persistent magna secret acvivements?
