Borderlands 2 VR – FAQ & Tips
Borderlands 2 VR: FAQ & Tips
Can I jump?
  • Under the Options menu, go to Controls, then Movement Controls and toggle the option that says "Walk + Jump". This will allow you to play the game as you normally would in a non-VR game.
Does the game come with the DLC?
  • The DLC is a free add-on for anyone who has purchased Borderlands 2 VR. After starting the game you can go to the "Downloadable Content" option in the Main Menu, then follow the prompts from there. Or just download the BAMF DLC PACK straight from the page on Steam.
  • The BAMF (BadAss Mega Fun) DLC PACK includes:
    • Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty
    • Torgue's Campaign of Carnage
    • Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt
    • Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep
    • K. Baha's Bloody Harvest
    • The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler
    • How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day
    • Mad Moxxi and the Wedding Day Massacre
    • Sir Hammerlock vs. the Son of Crawmerax
    • Mechromancer Pack - Gaige - NEW PLAYABLE CHARACTER with adapted BAMF skills
    • Psycho Pack - Krieg - NEW PLAYABLE CHARACTER with adapted BAMF skills
    • Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack
    • Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge
    • Many new skins, heads, new vehicles, DLC trophies, and more!
Can I play the game without the HUD?
  • Within the Options Menu, you can find three options for hiding the HUD. These are the options:
    • Default HUD
    • No Minimap - Using this option will completely turn off the minimap but still show you your current mission.
    • No Missions - This option gets rid of the entire top half of the HUD (Minimap and missions).
    • No HUD: This option completely hides the entire HUD.
When I shoot my gun, it shoots everywhere and the reticle seems useless. What can I do?
  • By holding the left trigger, you can focus your aim and guns should shoot closer to the reticle’s center.
I don’t like using the motion controllers. Can I use a regular controller?
  • You can play Borderlands 2 VR by using a traditional gamepad like you would if you were playing Borderlands 2.

Can I play this game on Valve's Steam platform on Valve's high-end VR system?

- No

Wait wut, really?

- Yes, because even after months of development time after the initial launch of Borderlands VR on PSVR, we were too incompetent to test on anything but Oculus hardware and software and launched on PC with massive issues for Valve Index, HTC Vive, WMR and all non-Oculus hardware. It was so bad we had to quickly put out a statement after launch that the Index isn't supported. And now months after release we still haven't patched in a fix.

[edit] It took 3 months but to their credit they didn't abandon the game and did release a patch fix for Index.

It would be really nice if we also get The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 3 as VR ports. And perhaps commander lilith's dlc for BL2VR?

Why is this not on sale?

Is there any way to unmap weapon switching (oculus quest/touch) from the right stick up+down? When you play seated or use stick turning, it's almost impossible to prevent weapon switching... in combat it's not playable. Since B button is mapped to radial weapon menu, this seems redundant at best, and game breaking at worst. Where is this, in which .ini file?

the Creature Slaughter Dome isn't available even with the BAMF dlc, because of 2 values :

is it going to be fixed in the future ?

Besides, if the final DLC "Commander Lilith and fight for sanctuary"could be released too, it would be great

Nope, the last update was late january, but its most likely not the last, and we can expect more Borderlands VR games in the future

And the game plays great, even better than the non VR ones

Would be great if they fixed this annoying pixel-shaking/jitter. This is the only VR Game where this happens. The performance is abysmal aswell, nonstop reprojection. Newer VR titles run better than this.

The pixel shaking is only happening in the first minutes of a game but yes need to be fixed, the performances shows a fps drop when you are in wide open areas, are climbing higher and higher while looking at the panorama... I guess its an optimisation matter... and a bug that cause particle effects to goes terribly wrong and overlaping themselves, leading to a disastrous drop in fps, but fortunately can be solved by switching into the main menu ingame...

But don't forget its a port of a regular pc game focusing on immersion and singleplayer, to have a game properly taking advantage of the possibilities provided by VR you would have to rebuild the whole game from scratch or simply do an entire new game VR exclusive

The worst VR games are definitly Bethesda's ones, they are lazy as hell and cumulate all the weaknesses without any of the strenghs ! Doom VFR, Cyberpilot, etc...

So how's the actual shooting?
- Terrible. The bullets don't usually go where you point your gun. Most guns are missing iron sights (you need both rear and front sights for iron sights to work, devs!), and the optional reticle is completely useless because it has a huge offset. You can't hold two-handed weapons in two hands, and scopes are a joke.

What about just walking?
- Also terrible. Your choices are insta-barf mode, or a 'comfort' mode that doesn't allow you to go where you want to go because the raycasting fails half the time due to things like pebbles in your path, which gets you killed more often than any enemy.

That sounds really bad for a game based around walking and shooting!
- That's not a question, but I feel your pain.

Weapons have an accuracy value and to aim precisely you have to press the left trigger, only Salvador can use a weapon in each hand when he use his class ability (its not a Serious Sam VR game), and when aiming precisely with a weapon equiped of a scope a picture-in-picture appear and replace the usual reticle, it show precisely what you would get by looking into it (its disturbing at first but very usefull when you get used to it)

You can either chose walk+jump or walk+teleport in the option menu accordingly to the context (press right A for jump/teleport), and BAMF is usefull in combat situations to slow down the time and take advantage of this
