Hey so, there's something wrong with my computer.

Every so often when a game uses a newer Direct x version (10/11) sometimes SOMETHING used in that the computer doesn't like and can't process. I don't know what exactly, some games that use it work ( Car Mechanic 18/ Jurassic World game) and some don't. ( Treasure Hunter Simulator/ This Game/We Happy Few/Warframe)

I THINK something is broken with my graphics card, which, is, unfortunately intigrated. As I've tried everything under the sun drivers wise to fix this.

Think it has something to do with 3D imaging, or 3D dynamic lighting?

Not sure exactly.

I can find so few other people that have this problem and have mostly given up on fixing it, and am just resigned to "To play this I'm going to need to buy a new computer".

But, what does anyone else think?

Sorry to hear that. :( Sometimes putting "-10dx" in launch game properties helps. Give it a try!

Unfortunately no change. I think it's a greater problem with this computer.

Does putting -10dx tell it to try to run the game without Directx 10?

If you're curious, the exact problem I'm having is a

"The following components are required to run this program:


DirectX Runtime

Would you like to install them now?"

And then hitting "Yes" brings me to a UE4 Prerequisites Setup (Modify Set up specifically, not an install page)

Which gives me the options to close it or uninstall UE4.

Which I've tried before, uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't help.

Something's keeping this computer from realizing it's on there or being able to use it.

It's a pain.

I'm thinking of getting a new laptop soon, too many games with this exact problem.

Try this one in that case:

Go to Start, Settings, Apps, then on the right hand side Programs and Features, Turn Windows Features On or Off... and uncheck any .NET components (make a note of which are installed). Reboot, then go back and switch those back on again. Then download the DirectX setup, run it, and it'll work. Not a bug in the game, but something screwy with the Windows install, by the looks of it.

DId most of that and nothing new yet- aside from redownloading Direct X Setup.

What specific set up would you suggest I use? Don't want to use the wrong one.

Just the one the game prompts when I try to open it?

Hmmm, can you send me your PC Specs? Are your graphic card drivers updated?

Oh, so, I tried to reinstall the one the game prompted (UE4 Prereq)

I opened up the log file and it's pretty long, do you want me to send it over?

( Also this is a very longlived problem with this computer, don't feel obliged to help me fix it. I appreciate the help, but it really is a lot to tackle. )

Also, I feel like it's important to note that at one point a Windows tech helped me reinstall the entire operating system and that still didn't fix it.

I bought the computer as a new, but display model from a Office Max, which what makes me think there's something physically wrong with a part in it. But, obviously wouldn't know for sure.

Ahhh that's fair.

I still think there's something fundamentally wrong with it, it's not playing a ton of things every other computer I've had has been able to at least run. (And one of those was an 11 year old HP brick)

But, the solution either way seems like it'll have to be 'buy a new laptop.'
