thje game uses unity engine in opengl mode, so it would properly not be so hard to do a native version.
but it runs very good in proton because of the opengl mode ;-)

Yep Proton runs very well.
You just need to activate steam play at the steam options and choose a Proton version (I have 5.13, it runs good with NMS, as well.
But there are newer versions of PRoton. Just give it a try.

I've been playing it through Proton with no issues on Manjaro.

No official Linux version (and I don't care if they run it through steam play, as long as they support it) = no sale.

I've tried in Linux and it failed to work with proton 7, complaining about not having access to some files from what I could tell from the terminal output.

It works perfectly on Steam Deck with no tweaks. Haven't tried on desktop yet, but I'd expect it to work equally well there.

It worked first try on Garuda Linux with Steam native and Vulkan. No Issues whatsoever.
Beautiful, heartwarming game.
