Return to Windows when graphics set too high
Dear community

I've been struggling a lot since I started playing. The game randomly shutted down and I was back on my Windows Desktop.
I tried to disable a lot of features, and finally I removed DLSS, and set the graphics to "HIgh" instead of "Extreme" and now it seems to remain stable... but it's still a pity for a AAA game like that to have such crashes still one year after its release.
However, it's hardly a solution, I would really like to enjoy the full potential of the game... Has anyone a better solution ?

By the way, is there any way to remove this shader optimisation at each bootup ? It's like I'm back 15 years ago with BF2...

shader optimisation cannot be removed. also you need to mention your pc/laptop specs.

if it can run well on high then great. its not easy to make games for pc since they come with varied hardware, imagine the variety of hardware components that have to be accomodated as opposed to consoles so try to be patient with the devs.

There is no way, AFAIK, to remove the shader optimization at the start. It is essentially the load screen for the game so it comes down to -do you want to wait for the game to load at the launch screen or just wait at the shader optimization screen? You still will need to wait.

The length of time improves drastically with a state of the art computer. It took up to 10 minutes on my 12 year old machine and less than 30 seconds on my new machine.

Never had any significant problems with either rig playing the game. I think I had to restart the game once out of 400+ hours. The main difference I noted between my old rig with all the effects at the lowest possible level and the new one on ultra was the hair looks a lot more realistic now. There are probably some other differences but it was not "wow- amazing!" for me.

Mods seem to cause problems for some players with relentless crashing. The fix is to get rid of the mods. I did load up the mouse broom control mod and it worked fine and no crashing.

I know for a fact if you have the game's graphics settings too high for your rig, the game has a habit of auto-crashing itself as a means of making it obvious your machine cannot handle that (and as a means of protecting your hardware, most GPU's will trigger an app crash anyway if you set things beyond them)

Without your specs listed we can only assume this is the case for you. You were trying to run the game with settings beyond what your computer is comfortable with.

The game ran fine on my 3 year old PC and now on my new rig with 4070 it crashes to desktop constantly no matter what my settings are. I mean it takes longer for the shaders to load than I can play. What can I do?

Turn off hardware accelerated GPU scheduling in the windows graphics settings then restart your computer. You’ll lose frame generation but the crashing should stop. You can always turn it back on for other games.

I currently run a Ryzen 5700X @3,4GHz
32Go DDR4
nVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
4Tb SSD nVME
I play in a resolution of 3440 x 1440 on my 34" monitor

Of course it's not the best config ever, but I guess it's more than enough to run this game...

I just finished Cyberpunk in Extreme without any problems.

I see a LOT of RTX 4000 series owners complaining of this same issue across multiple games. I'm starting to think that series of cards has some unrealized/unresolved problems. I've got a RTX 3080 and have no issues playing this game on ultra high settings.

Agreed, i see a lot of 4000 owners on lots of forums experiencing issues while in the mean time im running on a laptop RTX3050 with just 4gb ram and stil get a steady 60fps on this game. Not all maxed out ofcourse, mostly mid and high settings but stil...

It seems that it's indeed a common issue coming from RTX 4000 series on Windows 11.
Apparently, turning off the Accelerated GPU Scheduling in Windows would solve the issue.

I did it this morning, I'll keep you posted whether I still have these crashes or not.

Nevertheless, it's a very good game, I'm enjoying it a lot !

RTX 4090 here, can't even play the game as I don't have enough VRAM. The game just won't launch. I am out of ideas.

contact nvidia, they obviously ask more for their products than the game devs do, they should provide good service, else refund the card and/or the game too

Yes you will crash to desktop when the software attempts to use more resources than your computer actually has. Why is this news?

That error message is misleading. You likely have a recent i7 or i9 Intel CPU which is being overclocked:

You have low VRAM and still buy nVIDIA lul.
