Game starts into black screen
It's seriously annoying that it came back after the July 25th "fix." Only one out of 20 PC restarts —because you're hardlocked to the black screen and have to restart your PC— might get you past the black screen.

The black screen means the game is recompiling shaders. If your system cannot handle the CPU running at 100% load for a few minutes without problems, then your system is unstable.

The OP's concern is entirely valid. No game should ever spend 5-10 seconds on a completely black screen, that's UX 101 and it would violate console TRCs/TCRs.

If its on a black screen for a long time it is most likely an issue with the PC as that person indicated.It does compile shaders first and it can take as many as 10 minutes. If it was only black screen for a minute however ...Maybe the person just did not have any patience and ended the game and the game is actually fine. When I first played I got a black screen for maybe 30 seconds. Then a compiling shaders screen. And the game was fine. So no 5-10 seconds means nothing. Game has to compile shaders. Modern game engines require it.

I think you're missing my point. The fact that there's any confusion whatsoever about the state of the application is a UX failure.

Is the game compiling shaders? Yes, it is.
Should there be any room for misunderstanding about that? No, there should not.

Thanks.

This happens to me all the time, no fix as of yet, but I’ve left the screen on for 2 hours and it’s still black

I had solved this by editing an ini-file, but after the latest update the bug came back and the fix doesn't work anymore.

there is a fix. Delete the engine.ini in appdata and see if it works

thats a good idea as the game when it starts up will rewrite it with the default which should work with any PC.

I could not find the file. Mine is getting stuck on Loading Pre Shaders.

Done that and still nothing

I used Geforce Experience to re-optimize the game and then started the game from Geforce Experience. That worked.

There is a fix involving editing a file.
"
Win+R

enter %appdata%

navigate out of Roaming

and go into Local/Hogwarts Legacy/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor

Open GameUserSettings.ini with your prefered editor or similar (its treated as a .txt file)

Scroll down to [ShaderPipelineCache.CacheFile]

beneath it, add r.ShaderPipelineCache.Enabled = 0

should look like this

\[ShaderPipelineCache.CacheFile\]

LastOpened=Phoenix

r.ShaderPipelineCache.Enabled = 0

save"

This worked for me and has worked for many others, as well.
