Really wish you spent more time in the castle.
The Harry Potter games from the early 2000s were better for this because the castle was always the most interesting part.

You can, there is tons of details there, details that ware not in original HP games, like death party in dungeon, or the tome and quill with every wizard in it.

I mean more in terms of the quests and story.
Same feeling, tbh. Hogwarts and Hogsmeade have a depth of interest and story to them that none of the other locations quests drag you to around the map have. Even significant locations like Feldcroft or Rookwood Castle are little more than drab hamlets or ruins with none of the depth and detail that even one room in the castle or a single shop in Hogsmeade have.

Lukewarm take, I don't care how big the world is if there's nothing in it. Too much time was spent making a big world and not enough time breathing life into it.

I have no opinion on those older Harry Potter games (only played the Lego Creator one), but I do agree that after a point, Hogwarts castle becomes a bit irrelevant. While it's great that we can explore the surrounding area, it does mean that having to go back to Hogwarts for any reason becomes more annoying than anything else, considering all the winding corridors and towers that have to be navigated - especially when accessing hidden treasures that couldn't be reached before. Not to mention that it's odd to be able to walk around the castle at all hours and facing no consequences for being away from the castle for days on end. I honestly wish I had more gameplay-driven reasons to spend time in the Slytherin common room (it's actually pretty soothing in there).

If I had my druthers, Portkey would make a series of games about a custom character that starts with a game about their third year (with the first and second years being a long tutorial/prologue) so that Hogsmeade and some of the more immediate surrounding area would be involved, but it would involve the castle itself much more. Then each sequel would be about a subsequent year with the ability to import character data, with the story being focused on the same areas as the first and adding new territory - but still keeping it relatively small so the details can be fleshed out. While I have been enjoying the story in this game (haven't beaten yet), it does feel a bit fast-paced for a Harry Potter story, and the hamlets don't add much narratively.

I feel the opposite. If the game was all within the castle, I wouldn't have like this game...

They didn't say they wanted it to all be within the castle, just that they wanted to spend more time in it.

Still feel the same. More time in the caste = less time exploring outdoors. Not my cup of tea.

Depends. If the game had been made to take place more in the castle, then there could've been a lot more to explore within said castle. Hogwarts is supposed to be riddled with secret passages, long-lost chambers, and ever-shifting stairways. And while the world of Hogwarts Legacy isn't so empty or bland as some other open-world games I've played (*cough* DAGGERFALL *cough*), I can understand the desire to involve the iconic landmark a bit more. Imagine how much more they could've gotten out of Hogwarts if they hadn't included that coastal region to the southeast.

This is part of it. Imagine if the castle has massive hidden areas and labyrinths just loaded with history of the castle.
this game is not about harry potter, about hogwart. So why you compare harry potter game official licensed to this/>

For the same reason one might compare KoTOR to the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I think its because you're a 5th year.
In the Harry Potter movies for example at first they spent alot of time in the school. Makes sense because they were kids. But as the characters grew they started doing things that went far beyond the school walls.
I like the castle but i wouldnt want to spend too much time there. Exploring the wilderness is more fun

The point. You've missed it.

This is why I'd love to see a custom-character Hogwarts game where the player starts in their third year (with the first and second years being the tutorial/prologue). Third years are allowed to leave the castle, but the castle itself could still be heavily involved.
