Solution to crashes (rtx 4090)
Hi Everyone,

I turned off all NVIDIA AI features in the graphics and I haven't crashed once in over two hours (switched anti-aliasing to TAA, and turned off NVIDIA Reflex). Previously I was crashing every 5-10 minutes. I have an RTX 4090, Hope this helps some of you.

Edit: Just clarifying that I only changed the settings in game. I didn't have to change a single thing outside of the game (and I wouldn't anyway because I'm not tweaking my settings for the worse for one stupid game lol).

I originally played Hogwarts Legacy when it first came out on an NVidia 3060. Worked fine. No crashes. Sometime after I was done with the game I upgraded to an NVidia 4070 Super. I then started playing Hogwarts Legacy again (after the June '24 patch dropped). Only this time it constantly crashed every 10 minutes or so. It seems there is an issue with this game and the 4070s (just a hunch, though).

The below steps fixed this crashing issue for me. It has not crashed once since I made these changes, and I am still playing on all ultra settings including raytracing. Hopefully it fixes yours. Even if you don't have a 4070 give it a try anyway. Can't hurt.

Step 1 - In Hogwarts Legacy, in the Display Options screen, turn OFF Frame Generation. Close Hogwarts Legacy.

Step 2 - Disable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) in Windows. To do this, in Windows 11 (I assume it is similar for Windows 10) Go to: Settings --> System --> Display --> Graphics --> "Change default graphic settings" --> Toggle off the Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling --> Restart your computer

Start up Hogwarts Legacy and keep your fingers crossed.
I refunded this crash o matic sim. Fixed my crashes

In the latest patch notes it says the game have issues with Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. It's a Windows setting. The crashes disappear when you disable it.
System --> Display --> Graphics --> Default graphics settings

One problem is that if you disable Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, you can't use DLSS 3. So you either have to deal with the crashes or won't be able to use DLSS.

They are working on a fix for this issue, but there is no ETA when this patch will be done.

What seems to have fixed the crashing for me is to cap the fps at 60, turn on vsync and have frame generation off. I nearly forgot turn off Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling in your windows settings

Idk how you guys are changing any of the settings in the game bcuz I can't even get past the bloody user descretion screen without it ALT-F4'ing. I'm using an RTX 4070TI so I am more than capable of running the game so what is this bs

OP's solution seems to have worked for me. Was able to play for about 3 hours this evening without any crashes, finally.

Why bother disabling HAGS for one broken game, when you can simply disable all of the upscaling and RT in the game settings. You know, rather than disabling the upscaling in all games by disabling HAGS or having to reboot to re-enable it again.

You may need to edit the games ".ini" files in order to adjust the settings outside of the game.

It's located in:

"C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Engine.ini"

Also check out

"C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini"

Change [YourName] to your actual user name. I'm also assuming that your user profile is located on the "C:\Users\".

You can open that file with your favorite text editor, Eg. Notepad
