Update Failed - Disk Write Error
Don't see any posts on this. After the recent update, couldn't launch Hogwarts Legacy.

Verified the game files, which prompted a new download. But at the end of the download I'm getting a Disk Write Error and it says the update failed.

Uninstalled the game and re-downloaded. Downloaded almost all of the game files with no issues, but at the last moment I still keep getting Disk Write Error, and the game cannot be installed or launched.

Downloaded other Steam games to play with no such Disk Write Error issues.

Uninstalled and reinstalled Hogwarts Legacy, as well as deleted the files under Steamapps > Common > Hogwarts Legacy. But no improvement.

As a last resort, uninstalled all of my games and all of Steam.

Reinstalled Steam, and re-downloaded Hogwarts Legacy. Still getting the same Disk Write Error. Other games re-downloaded have no such issues.

Literally unplayable after this patch. If anyone is facing similar problems, or has a fix please comment.

make sure to repair steam's library, it's settings> storage> select the disk your games are on and hit repair. there are also yt videos on how to fix it, as i ran into this problem too a while ago.

Same thing for me. I can't play the game at all. Sometime I get to see the warning screen then it crashes. Otherwise, I get ''Couldn't start...blablabla...Phoenix....blablabla....error 2'' and won't lunch at all.

Tried updating Steam, Nvidia drivers, windows 11, reinstalled the game, move game to another drive (main drive is SSD m.2, second drive is SSD sata).

If I verify the integrity of the files I get the disk error. Rebooting PC gets rid of the error but the game still won't lunch.

I had this issue as well. I reached out through steam help and all they did was refund the game and remove it from my library instead of offering a solution.
Had the problem a couple of days ago, got tired if trying and let it go, suddenly now it lets me reinstall, maybe just give it some time (still crashing after a couple of minutes though :beatmeat:)

Just to share Steam Support's reply to the ticket submitted, and the steps they suggested.

I see that you are experiencing a disk write error while trying to install Hogwarts Legacy. This error indicates that Steam failed to read one of your local files during installation - the file name is given in the error message. There are a number of things that could be causing this issue: the file could be missing, corrupted or locked, your hard drive could be experiencing issues, or a Windows service or third party app could even be interfering with the installation process. Our Update & Installation Issues article has steps for resolving installation issues. You will want to make sure that you perform the following ones, as they pertain directly to the error you are experiencing: Restart your computer Clear download cache Repair library folder Check HDD for errors If you've tried all of these and are still encountering the error, please let us know. If anything changed after performing the troubleshooting steps from the article above, make sure to include that info as well. Ultimately, it may be necessary for you to consult a local specialist in your area for advanced support.

as ive posted before to other people. I had the same issue, but the solution for me was to update video drivers, uninstall the game, update steam, restart steam, then re-install game.

I was able to play for about 90 mins - everything was fine. Then suddenly the game crashed several times, until at one point it didn't even launch at all without any error message.

So I did all of the above mentioned measures (updated Steam, Nvidia drivers, Windows itself and all drivers manually, reinstalled the game, moved it to another drive (internal SSD, than HDD, than external 1TB SSD), reinstalled Steam) and did several reboots throughout all of that.

And still: Disc Error during installation in the last minutes before completion.

I am beyond dissappointed to have spend money on a game that is unplayable.
Now I sit here in disbelief during my first and only holiday this year, which I wanted to use for gaming as my personal mental self-care. :')

If anyone figures it out how to get it installed/launched again, pleaaaaase share it here :)

This may help others. Disabling my antivirus fixed the disk write error and allows the files to be validated. You can also add an exception to the scanner. Game runs fine. For now anyway.

I can confirm ! Disabling my antivirus allowed steam to verify and dowload the missing file. I can now launch the game properly !

Confirming that disabling my avast has allowed the steam to update the files as well.

I did the same here as well but sadly when I resumed my session the following day...the game crashes/freezes to desktop.
