Crashing with the new update
since the game was updated, it is unstable and crashes after a few minutes of gameplay. It is incredible that with a 12600k and a 4070s the game has such a bad performance.

Its crashing for lots of people unfortunately. While there are some workarounds a few people say work for them, for the most part we are all just waiting for the game to get fixed by the devs.

10,000+ people playing on Steam. Many more playing on console. Looks like the same few people who have yet figured out how to do a few of the workarounds completely.

Not saying it's right! Not saying we should be forced to figuring this out and doing it! Not blaming HAGS. Just saying that some of the player base is not the majority.

That has worked for several folks, and for others it hasn't but it may be worth to give it a try. It is not the greatest fix but it seems to help folks trying to run HL.

Disable HAGS.
Restart your PC.
Launch the game.
At character select go to settings.
Disable Ray Tracing.
Here's the step people miss - Run the benchmark.
Go back to character select, try to enter the game again.

Hello

I don't have the best system for this game here.

I7-6700K 32 Gb Ram an Asus OG-STRIX-RTX2080TI-O11G-WHITE-GAMING. Latest Nvidia graphics card driver Asus Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard. Monitor 1920 x 1080 Windows 10 latest version

But I have to say that after the update I played for over 10 hours without any crashes.

However, I also used the GeForce Experience specifications.

Yes it doesn't always look perfect but no crashes. Not one.

Could it be that some players are demanding a little too much from their systems, computers and graphics cards?

You can try it with GeForce Experience.

And then put it on high.

In this sense

I originally played Hogwarts Legacy when it first came out on an NVidia 3060. Worked fine. No crashes. Sometime after I was done with the game I upgraded to an NVidia 4070 Super. I then started playing Hogwarts Legacy again (after the Photomode patch dropped). Only this time it constantly crashed every 10 minutes or so. It seems there is an issue with this game and the 4070s (just a hunch, though).

The below steps fixed this crashing issue for me. It has not crashed once since I made these changes, and I am still playing on all ultra settings including raytracing. Hopefully it fixes yours. Even if you don't have a 4070 give it a try anyway. Can't hurt.

Step 1 - In Hogwarts Legacy, in the Display Options screen, turn OFF Frame Generation. Close Hogwarts Legacy.

Step 2 - Disable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS) in Windows. To do this, in Windows 11 (I assume it is similar for Windows 10) Go to: Settings --> System --> Display --> Graphics --> "Change default graphic settings" --> Toggle off the Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling --> Restart your computer

Start up Hogwarts Legacy and keep your fingers crossed.

any update or fix yet?

Since the new update I cannot play at all. No chance to play. Black screen only! Anyone else with the same issue?

Devs don't care abt their game. its been a whole month since people are having issues in this game to which devs didn't even responded officially. Yeah not everyone is facing this problem but still a major chunk of community mostly people who are on newer builds are facing.

Do you have a RTX series 4? If so you can stop the crashes by disabling 'Hardware-Accelerated GPU scheduling' in your display settings under graphics.
Monica_Legend92 Jul 2, 2024 @ 12:34pm
I've no idea what that is. I have everything updated with Intel Arc Control.
Peggers Jul 2, 2024 @ 1:34pm
Shocking. Just cannot play at all running on a i9 14900 32gb ram and a rtx 4090 and I feel robbed. the game just closes and ive had the same error message come up once pure virtual function being calles while application was running (GLsRunning== 1)

No, it is not.
Maybe it doesn´t work for everyone, but turning off HAGS got me from crashing every 5 minutes to no crash at all during my last two play sessions.
That´s on a 4070Ti.

this is the only believable "fix" I have found

does not matter now i dont see why I or anyone else should have to jump through hoops to get what they pay for so i refunded it

heres hoping they fix it before the sale ends i want this game

Well I haven't had a single crash since disabling HAGS, so it DOES work for some of us.
