Waste of money unless you are a hardcore Harry Potter fan...
Wish I could refund. There are way too many collectibles, the combat is mediocre imo. Only spend 22 hours and already got sick and tired of this game.

LOL, complete fabrication - the combat is excellent and there's a ton do do even if you're not a Potter fan - which I am not.

the only hardcore thing about it, is that awful quiz.

I'm not a Harry Potter fan (never read any of the books, watched the first two movies but really didn't like 2 of the 3 main characters, never watched any others), but I did have about 140 hours of fun with this game. I'm sorry if it didn't work for you, but your assessment looks like an overgeneralization to me.

It may depend on what one expects from the game. It's a casual action-adventure with excellent, very detailed environments in Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, a rather shallow open world with lots of copy-pasted (and only slightly changed) content, surprisingly elaborate combat (but extremely easy once you figure it out), and a decent story (though nothing special).

If someone expects a full-fledged RPG, or a simulation of a student's life at Hogwarts, and/or less casual gameplay, then they will probably be disappointed, regardless of whether they are a Potterhead or not. If someone is fine with a casual action-adventure that references a lot of lore and detail from a fantasy world that was built over many years, then they will probably like it, regardless of whether they are a Potterhead or not. The game definitely has its flaws, but its enjoyability does not depend on being a Potter fan.

It's clearly a game that was targeted at a mainstream audience. With such an audience in mind, it makes sense to keep the gameplay casual and to not assume detailed lore knowledge among the players. The game succeeds at both - the gameplay is manageable even for non-gamers, and the setting can be enjoyed by Potterheads (who will find lots of references to things they know and like) as well as people with next to no knowledge of that franchise (who can either ignore the lore, or use the field guide to get introduced to it).

I wish I could play it so I could get sick of it too.

I can see not being a fan of the series being a problem, yea.

I mean, if you didn't want to pick up the franchise even after it became super famous... I doubt playing in the game is going to be engaging. Especially since it's a collectathon.

I think the game will do just fine even if the target audience is people who enjoy the books/movies. I mean, that's still a lot of people even if it's not you.

The game does need some ironing out and they are very slow with the patches.

Some stuff just never appears on the map, but you're expected to get it for achievements. The only way to know some of these things is to use a guide or literally comb the map casting a spell over and over. And it's a huge map.

I think the combat is alright. I think if Witcher 3 combat got a pass, this game's combat is S tier.

Why?

I mean, the _world_ of Harry Potter always felt very imaginative and interesting to me. But I just couldn't stand this paper-thin, yuppie-like Harry Potter character, nor the even more shallow, blatantly obvious "loyal sidekick" character that was Ron.

I also don't find "school days" settings particularly interesting or engaging, and I found the whole "forced competition" element of the House Cup very silly and cringeworthy. Thankfully (for me), Hogwarts Legacy keeps those elements to a minimum (while many Potterheads have expressed their disappointment over that).

In this regard, Hogwarts Legacy gave me exactly what I was looking for: An introduction to the world of Harry Potter, without those annoying characters and with only minimal "House Cup" silliness. Hogwarts Legacy literally _removed_ the stuff that was _preventing_ me from developing any deeper interest in the franchise before.

I also don't find it unusual for a gamer to have an interest in games, while not being into movies of the same franchise. For example, I enjoyed games like "The Walking Dead" or "The Wolf Among Us", but I never had any interest in the comics or TV shows. I have zero interest in passively watching the Jurassic Park movies, but I enjoyed the LEGO game about them. I never had any inclination to passively watch any Star Wars movies after the original trilogy, but when The Skywalker Saga offered me to explore these rich and detailed worlds interactively, I of course took that opportunity.

Then why you buy it from begin with?

there is no harry potter in this game:happysnake:

I thought I would enjoy the game which is why I bought it. Yes, its a beautiful world and the combat is decent for me but still feels lacking. The world feels stuffed with way too many collectibles with no real feeling of accomplishment. It all feels like busy work..
But to be honest I have not finished the game and I doubt I will.

It's true that you do not need to be a fan of Harry Potter, etc.. it's just a casual action rpg based in the world of Harry Potter. *Shrugs*

I am no Harry Potter fan. Didn't watch any of the movies and didn't read any of the books and I still enjoy it...

agree, its a slog to get through. The game suffers from some terrible design choices for example world map is shallow, the lock picking mini game is a chore, and the Merlin trials are so boring and aren't remotely challenging, casting Revelio every 15 seconds whilst running around the castle trying to get collectables is an awful mechanic.

It is busy work...put in a ton of collectibles so people keep playing. If you aren't OCD or a completionist, it really doesn't amount to much.

My guess would be the quiz later on in the library to get a collectible page needed to continue the story. You only need to do the first part but the one giving the quiz lets you take a couple more afterwards as a side mission thing. Better use a guide because it is some really obscure stuff.

Game was very well made regardless of being Harry Potter fan. I was never a fan myself but the game is good. I found everything engaging and relaxing besides the pets aspect. The other mini worlds for your pets was a cool concept. Athough could care less about visiting it and capturing more of them.
