RTX 5090 Low FPS in Hogwarts Legacy (DLSS 4 + RT) - GPU Underutilized
Hey everyone, I'm experiencing serious performance issues with Hogwarts Legacy on my RTX 5090, but all other games run flawlessly.

Here’s what’s happening:

Hogsmeade: FPS drops to 35
Inside Hogwarts: FPS fluctuates around 50, with peaks of 65-70

My settings:
4K, DLSS 4 + Quality + RT + Ray Reconstruction
GPU utilization: only 50-60%
CPU utilization: barely 15%
It feels like my GPU isn't being fully utilized, which is strange because in every other game, performance is perfect. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Are you playing at 4k? Honestly, you likely don't even need to use FG at all in this game given the literal compute power of the 5090. I guess you could try 4k dlss quality, but to me it sounds like your cpu bottlenecked stupidly hard. Hogsmeade and inside the castle are decently cpu heavy. And this gets compounded even more when you flip RT on.

I have a Ryzen 9 7950X, and I play in 4K with DLSS Quality Enable. All settings in Ultra mode. But my FPS are too low. From 35 to 70, and change constantly, inside the castle I have terrible change of Framerate. I do not think that this CPU, is a bottleneck for the 5090..

Yes, it is being bottlenecked by the cpu, this game is known for being cpu bottlenecked even if you have the best existing cpu on the market.

And your frames are usually good on other games? Last I was on this game (4070 S, 5800x), I was getting 90-120 fps at 3440x1440 and using dlss + FG. RT would sit around that 80-100 range. I would try other games just to eliminate the possibility that it's your gpu.

I would try just keeping FG off and only using the dlss. Heck, you can probably even get away with native 4k.

It's perplexing that Hogwarts Legacy exhibits performance issues on my system, especially when demanding titles like Indiana Jones and Cyberpunk 2077 run flawlessly

CyberPunk 2077 with 4K RT Overdrive (DLSS Quality), 55-65fps.
Indiana Jones with 4K RT Ultra (DLSS Quality), 58-70fps
Spiderman 2 with 4K RT Ultra 75-80fps.

It's too strange...

I not use FG in Hogwarts Legacy Only DLSS and RT. Only this, and my performance are too bad.

Wow i've heard of the big 50 series cards but didn't they were for sale yet....well not here in Australia
Sorry this had nothing to do with the topic

is a cpu bottleneck, i have the ryzen 9 7950x and a rtx 4080, gpu usage is around 50%/60% in open areas, this cpu is bad for gaming, use frame generation x2 in this game and it will be playable, also if you disable RT the gpu usage will skyrocket, not 99% or even 95%, but you will notice the difference

I don't know why people keep jumping to "CPU bottleneck" here lol, it's like a trained response from a dog being told to bark.

HL just runs terribly. There is no reason to it, it simply does not handle culling well, draw calls are often stalling causing low CPU usage (which in turn hurts your GPU usage etc) and has been a buggy, stuttery game since launch.
no matter what rig you get even if it's the latest and most up to date hardware you are still going to have a bottle neck some where in your PC
the game just runs poorly. i have a 3060 ti and a 5700x and the game isnt optimized.

sounds very much like the issues I had. going into Hogsmeade would for some reason absolutely tank my fps. also my game would crash after a while anyway. reverting back to the previous patch solved all my issues. sure, it doesn't have ray reconstruction and frame generation isn't really usable with the old patch because of the ui ghosting, but performance is so much better fg isn't needed.

imagine buying a 3k $ card and cant play Hogwarts smooth :D:D:D i have a 4070 and get around 160 fps on High ... btw, without RT cause its not neccesary

Same for me.

It also runs just like with my old GPU (GTX 1070) when I tried that on release when I have a RTX 4060 now.

Even an older CPU from my brother and with a worse GPU etc. it runs with above 30 FPS flawlessly and stable and on High settings and with 1080p.

It's pure madness with the performance in HWL.

Meanwhile, FF7 Rebirth runs at 4k with 120 FPS and all settings on High without an issue for me (but Pirate Yakuza does have some minor issues again).

I just want 60 FPS at at least 1080p, but only get 20 FPS then. But I at least managed to get to 40-50 FPS with all the settings on High and Ray-Tracing an other stuff on.

But yeah, I can just say that it is REALLY like the GPU AND CPU are underutilized/not really used for me, which might cause the issue.

MSI Afterburner also shows that both is only at 30% regarding usage. It sucks.

I’m having simular issues with the 5090. It’s running at 600-700 mhz in HWL wich is getting me around 35 fps with everything maxed out. It’s not going to burn any cables at 240 watts of usage, but something is not right about this game…
