Play Mod crashes game

Anyone having the game crash instantly you click play mods? I haven't played in a while and wanted to get back in with the mod update but seems to crash every time i click the option.
loading into an old save file works fine and doesn't crash (aside from the stutter). I thought i removed all old mods and even did a clean install of the game but maybe I'm missing something?

it freezes for me or even if i'm able load some mods i get an error message saying mods couldn't be deactivated i need manually delete them

Yes, and did everything possible what was purpossed by annybody.
Nothing did work. Though unmodded it works. Startup time of the game was long and is now even longer.....

I am having crashing, stuttering, and now I pretty much have to force close the game every single time I play. I played for over 100 hours prior to this garbage patch with ZERO mods or anything messing with the game and NEVER had a problem before at all except right at launch. This literally feels worse than that. Not only will I never pre-order a game again, I'll never keep the automatic updates on again either. P.S, Its not my rig either. I can handle anything out right now.

I thought it may be the Ascendio mod, so i downloaded it again and uninstalled from the installer but still no luck. Looks like were waiting for a patch, but considering how the stutter in the game was never fixed this most likely will not be either.

It was working for me yesterday (1/31/25) when I made a new character after removing the old mods and validating files. This morning (2/1/25) it crashes after the loading screen once I click continue.

Yeah same issue here, as soon as I click on the "play mods" my game instantly crashes without any error message, as if I alt+f4. I tried mustiple uninstall + reinstall from scratch and verify game files, same issue, it's a fckin' mess...

Try windowed mode, it works for me

Same here, i can play my "normal" save, but when i try the copy with "mods" it crashes after some secconds in the loading screen and then the screen goes black, and on stand by.... and PC freezes, even NumLock light wont respond.
My wife who sits behind me on her own pc has the same issue.
And we both have removed the "~mods" folder, or else the game won't even start.
Ill think by reading all of those comment that this must be a game related thing and not a user related problem. Because even people who never moded the game have this issue allso.

Exactly the same problem here
All works good but when I try pressing on the "play mods" button the game don´t respond and closes

found a fix.

You have to allow access to controlled folder.

Open Windows Security

Click Virus & threat protection

Click Manage settings (under Virus & threat protection settings)

Under Controlled folder access click Manage Controlled folder access

Click Allow an app through Controlled folder access

Browse and Add HogwartsLegacy.exe
