After update instantly blocked by virusscanner for illegal IDP.generic
Titel says it all.
Got a subscribtion on Norton and after the new "Mod patch" wanted to play again and at that point Hogwards got isolated by Norton because the game now perfomt illegal actions due to an newly implemented IDP.generic
Nice going Dev's

New Update Infected
AVG has moved HogwartsLegacy.exe to quarantine because it was infected with IDP.Generic.

Apparently happening with several different AV programs. My guess is that something in the new phoning-home elements with mod integration is triggering a flag in the AV programs. Just a guess though.

AVG is a terrible antimalware product even though popular. It'll false-flag things as a signal that it's doing something when it'll also allow things into the system.

Logging in as a standard user with Windows' own Security is better than any 3rd party antivirus running as admin.

New update is not infected unless your system already is. With AVG, that's possible.

Avast is famous for false positives to pretend it's doing something when it fails to protect from so many other things.

Logging in as a Standard User with Windows' own Security is far better than any 3rd party antivirus as an admin.

The update isn't malware unless your system was already compromised and is inserting malware, which is wholly possible using Avast.

You've made your choice and are rejecting everything contrary. Nobody's going to be able to help you with such an obstinate stance.

If you're just coming here to gripe and soapbox, do not expect a warm response.

False positive is better, than not doing anything at all, like Windows Defender. At least heuristic defense is working.

delete all mods from nexus and problem is done

AVg belngs to Avast which belongs to Norton, all three likely use the same virus signatures so they all have the same false-positive reports
Same thing happened to me. Go into Norton, to the quarantine and create exclusions and accept. It should run - mine did.

IDP.Generic?
My antivirus finds an "IDP.Generic" virus (after the latest upgrade) and puts the main executable file in quarantine, not allowing the game to open. Is it a false positive?

Same here. Ever since that update I wasn't able to play the game cause my Avast was saying it contains IDP.Generic. Reading discussions it looks like dev's new policy let them collect datas from players and do whatever they want with them. All solutions I had seen were to make exception for this file and let it run while you play. Also one dude was saying all the time same thing: "Antivirus X bad. You do use Windows Defender. Use Windows. USE WINDOWS. Any different antivirus baaaaaad!"I think he suggested to use Windows Defender instead of other antiviruses program, but not sure

Same thing happening to me. I don't know whether or not I should restore the file and make an exception, or just leave it in quarantine ;-;
  1. Open your anti-virus software and navigate to the "Quarantine" setting.
  2. Search for a file relating to Hogwarts Legacy and try restoring this file.
  3. Afterwards, add this file as an exception so your software won't try and quarantine it again.
  4. Attempt to relaunch the game.

So the solution is to let you collect data and do whatever you want with them? Seems legit as...

This is not an answer to the topic but a methode to do "white listing" of a game that does not follow EU laws concerning privacy. This game is breaking the EU law. Period.

This game automaticly wants to share data and that is against the law.
I am not white listing any game that does not follow EU laws by not offering INGAME options for sharing data.
One should be able to refuse sharing data ingame and NOT by going outside of the game to do so.,

Made a ticked at Steam about this issue and the game is now under investigation.
