Constantly crashing
Hi!

I'm new to playing Hogwarts Legacy, and I'm loving it. It's amazing, but I keep experiencing constant crashes while playing.

My specs are:

RAM: 32 GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS with Radeon Graphics
Storage: 1TB SSD

In theory, my hardware should be enough to run the game (I'm playing on High settings, not Ultra), but I still get crashes. I've already disabled ray tracing, updated both AMD and Nvidia drivers, and checked for other potential issues, but nothing seems to work.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you fix it?

are you running on the AMD or on the nvidia gfx ?
Having the same problem. I cant even make it past the preparing shaders screen now and it's really f***ing disappointing. According to Can You Run It my specs are more than enough and it kept crashing like every 20-30 minutes on medium graphics.

Medium? And still crashing? I haven't tried on medium cause i thought it was something on the config that was the problem

any error message?

That has something to do with the game itself. It has been poorly optimized. I have similar specs and often have fps drops that are very noticeable.

Mostly BSOD

When I analyze the dump file of the error it says it was nvlddmkm.sys fault and I looked into it and it has something to do with NVidia but that's it, I don't know nothing much

Did you configure it in any way so that it would work decently?

I had the same issue, but I updated my graphics drivers to the latest version and haven't had a crash since. was on something like 543.x and now on 566.x.

Nvidia 1070Ti for a GPU.

I did that, 566.36 right now and still getting crashes
Have you tried letting Nvidia Experience set the best parameters for you? I have had issues with it years ago, but it works pretty well now. That may not be your problem but it couldn't hurt.

Your setup is pretty similar to mine except the AMD. I have never had a crash and play on ultra- set by Nvidia. Definitely check other programs running in the background and stop those tasks if not essential to running the computer. Verify game files. A lot of games don't like OBS and other streaming software.

The first time I played it was all predefined by Nvidia on Ultra and it work like 20-30 minutes until it crashed

On High settings I could play for like two hours before it crashed and then crashed randomly, it could crashed at 30 minutes playing or 15 or an hour

I don't have any other programs on background, occasionally nitro sense for monitoring (I thought it may be overheating but max temp was 75°)

It seems like a driver problem. Does this crash happen only when playing Hogwarts Legacy?
I would try to use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to uninstall the Nvidia driver clean, then reinstall the newest version.

There was a well known bug when using HAGS on windows, but they claim to have fixed it.
Try to disable HAGS - to to your windows display settings, scroll down to graphics, on the top "change default graphics settings", switch Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling to "Off". Reboot the PC, test if the game still crashes.

I'm going to try this first, and if there's still crashes I'll try DDU. I haven't tried that because I got scared I might f****d up the entire system.

I've only try with Hogwarts Legacy because it's the only game I have, my PC is brand new and it's my first time actually playing so I don't have any other games
Even with HAGS disabled I still crash pretty consistently more so near the herbology classroom when I try to turn in and learn wingardium leviosa. I was however able to learn depulso it seems very random but more so inside hogwarts itself not as much in hogsmeade or the surrounding areas. I try to do a mission then go back both fast travel and running dont seem to matter. I play on low everything uncapped and 120 fps. I've tried the suggested optimizations from nvidia it worked for a bit but the real issues are when you fast travel directly to the greenhouse. I've yet to crash fast traveling directly to the room of requirement whether this was by design to be lore friendly its a nice coincidence.

I must mention I am still running windows 10 home but since today's major windows update they are transitioning to windows 11 so I hope that fixes the majority of my crashes that seem consistent both here and in marvel rivals (not so much on the epic version). I am not sure if its worth noting but anything we can gather between our trial & error will be helpful to us all. No idea when or if we will receive official word from wbgames on the next major patch since it seems ps5 got one in november and pc was way back in july. I put in an official bug report of my experience thus far with wbgames support last night. I really want to play this game so badly and see everything it can offer despite the fear of constant crashes.
