Extremely low fps
I'm still stuck in the starting settings screens. The game is just too painful to do anything and change settings around when it's lugging at 1 to 2 fps. For a hot second the game loads at 60 fps but then when the logos start appearing it tanks to 1 fps. I used the recommended settings and then manually set to low on everything and turned off everything with no fps change. I even tried turning off vsync but it did nothing.

I'm on linux running Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS on a System76 Bonobo WS workstation laptop with a RTX 4090 gpu and 96G of ram. I'm really frustrated right now. As it stands the game is unplayable. With my hardware I should have no issues. So there must be something going on with the game itself.

I tried booting the game in proton hotfix and then 9.0 but no change. I also disabled steam in-game overlay and also no change. My system is all updated and the highest driver my system allows seems to be nvidia-driver-560.

I'm out of ideas at this point.

Maybe the game tries to use the slow onboard gfx instead of the 4090?

I've tried proton experimental too and it still didn't solve anything. I saw an online post that said this game also doesn't like the highest gen intel cpu's. Which I have. Supposedly, some people have success using proton ge but that's for amd cpu's. Would it even work for me?

I'll try talking to the people who made the computer for me. Maybe they can patch the driver? I have no issues on other games...so far. Just this one it seems.

I solved it. Turns out the game (all games I assume) default to my intel integrated graphics and not my 4090. In the library page > game > properties > General > Launch Options

I typed this code: DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU" gamemoderun %command%

I allow it to launch on proton hotfix as default. Now instead of lagging at 1 fps, I'm flying at a blistering 144 fps. I didn't think about my computer having two gpu's. One integrated and the expensive 4090 I paid for.

I'm so glad I fixed this. I was about to have a stroke. Kind of sucks that I have to do this for every game individually but that's ok.

Proton hotfix didn't work for long. I had to switch to experimental and lower the fps cap from uncapped to 140. The refresh rate of my screen at 4K is 144 but setting the fps cap to 144 seemed to cause frequent crashes. Also, I keep vsync on for good measure.

I use Linux. Y'all don't even know that Linux usually gets more fps than Windows. Because Windows, in fact, is a piece of trash with A LOT of bloatware and spyware
