Unsupported file system
So I was trying to download Hogwarts Legacy and P4G on my laptop and I set the location to be my USB. But they both "paused" after a moment and this "unsupported file system" showed up. When I changed location back to Windows the download went smoothly.

Both my laptop and USB have enough space for both game. And there seems to be nothing wrong with either the games themselves or Steam. I'm no tech expert, so can somebody tell me what happened and if there's a way to fix this or does that mean both games just... don't support my USB?

Thank you!!

you need to add your USB as a library for your steam first

unless your USB is some kind of weird file system type it should work

it's from transcend... i couldn't find a pic of it online since I don't know its exact model but it looks kinda similar to this one I think? https://gameone.ph/transcend-256gb-esd400-usb-3-0-portable-external-solid-state-drive-black.html sorry, I'm not really good at tech TTT

ok that doesn't tell me what I wanted to know, right click on it while it's plugged in and then click properties to see the file system type

is it the old Fat32 file system or NTFS system or something else. only way to find out is to plug in the USB right click on it and choose properties and somewhere it should say what file format the drive is in

That drive is formatted FAT32 from the factory. It's only 256GB. FAT32 has a limit on the file size it can handle.

It needs to be reformatted for NTFS. That will erase everything on it, though.

There is a possible issue with it also being a rather old model that was designed before Windows 10.
