If they say notihng, have you actually had the quest to collect them yet? The one where you get Alohomora.
Open the map and press F to wait, it will change night to day and vice versa.
Demiguise statues don't transform into the glowing version unless the unlocking charm quest started (completion not necessary, but you won't get the better versions without completing two stages of the quest line) and it's actually at night.
It can look like night, but it might not be quite nighttime, yet. If you at least started the unlocking charm quest, use the wait feature on the map screen to turn it to nighttime. Don't just let your student stand there expecting the statue to change in front of your student.
