Having moral dilemma on whether or not to buy this game
As a millennial, I grew up with Harry Potter and I've lost count on the amount of times I've read the books. I was never the type to worship artists and celebs. I always practiced "the less I know the better" approach and that's how I managed to get into black metal as someone who is not white or male.

As an Asian woman, I also now realize that the term Cho Chang is quite offensive. Not to mention the race fetishization of Asian women and promoting WMAF pairing as the media often does.

I understand that she's not really involved in this game but the thing is she will still profit from it and even if she wasn't directly making money out of this game, interest in Harry Potter universe being rekindled by the mass would lead to higher sales and consumption of other mediums and that would lead her to profit off from them at the end.

I feel so conflicted. Should I keep separating the art from the artist or do I listen to my trans friends and support them?

You thought the name Cho Chang was offensive? Oh boy.. just wait until you find out the headmaster's name in this game.

I will never understand the whole thing, why does anyone care about Rowling's views she is a middle aged woman saying ♥♥♥♥ on twitter. so people disagree with her and she disagrees with them. its is the whiny twitter mob that gives her words the power they have.. good grief its like they get their whole self worth from her opinion and she said something they didn't like they act like she killed their puppy..

She has done nothing to no one.. yes she makes money off the game since it was her idea, her writing that inspired it. but you know how much Rowling cares weather you buy this game or not? none she is rich anyway, and it was not her idea for the game to be made.

If getting this game is offensive to you don't buy it, simple as that.

Considering you are asking for advice on the Hogwarts Legacy forums you are looking for someone to tell you it is okay. So it is okay.. its only a computer game. you do what feels right for you, just don't let anyone guilt you into anything.

"Not to mention the race fetishization of Asian women and promoting WMAF pairing as the media often does."

The media promote even more often BMWF, is it bad ? Should black men be offended to be so objectified that a whole porn fetish has spawn from this pairing ? Should we all boycott Bridgerton for their sake ?

"Should I keep separating the art from the artist or do I listen to my trans friends and support them?"

You don't have to, she is not the artist here. According to reports, the artists of this game will give you the option to make a trans character if you fancy it. From my point of view having any forms of Harry Potter content including trans characters is the best way to show the irrelevance of her opinion.

So you say you grew up with the books and that you've lost count of how many times you've read them, but it's only now that you decided to be offended? Cho Chang is a British girl of Asian descent, what did you want her to be named? Amanda Whiteman?

You know, Rowling is a white woman from England. She could have written the Harry Potter books to exclusively cater to a white audience and left everyone else out. She still would have made a ton of money. She didn't do that though. She was gracious and kind enough to be inclusive so kids and adults who weren't white could also enjoy the books and not feel left out. And still, individuals like yourself decide to harp on her for not being intimately acquainted with the subtleties of a foreign cultures naming conventions.

She came up with a name that to her, a white woman from England, sounded like it could be the name of an Asian girl. It's beyond time to get over it.

Race fetishization? Can you recall or can you cite any passages in the books that fetishized this teenage girl in any way? Do you even know how the character was written? You should since you allegedly read the books countless times. Rowling describes her as beautiful and charming. A talented athlete. Passionate and incredibly brave. Not only are these great things to say about anyone, they could be said of anyone of any race.

Promoting WMAF pairing? God forbid a young man find a young woman of any foreign descent attractive huh? You sound ridiculous. You sound like you're parroting some major nonsense that you picked up from some bubblehead on reddit.

The only person who actually cares if you buy the game or not is you. I don't care if you buy the game or not and I really doubt anyone else who has wasted their time reading your lame bait cares if you buy the game or not. If you want it, buy it. If you don't want it, don't buy it. It's really as simple as that.

Why not just enjoy life for what it is and not get hung up on all the strings you imagine to be contingent on a decision. Do or do not, no need to post.

J.K Rowling is not Transphob! If you do not buy the game, you ally with Evil People who lie and are the real evil ones! So buy the game!
