Cant get into the game? Black screen?

Hi,

Moved house last month and just getting back into the game. PC is working fine and up to date. I get past the epilepsy warning but then it doesn't load the title screen? Just stays on a black screen refusing to load. Sat with it for 10 minutes hoping it might just be going slow after the move but nothing. any ideas?

If you have mods, delete the folder with them and run the game without them. Then you can put them back in and it should work (it always helps me). If you don't have them, restart the game until it works or try running it directly from the files folder.

This works for me, but I don't know how it will be for you. I hope this helps you in some way.

Just verified the integrity of game files when you right click the game in the library and just restarted. It was black screen for a couple of minutes then the preparing shaders bar loaded. All working now :)

Symptoms:

Crashes at “preparing shader cache” progress bar with about 10% in

Sound cuts off at “preparing shader cache” progress bar and it stops moving forward

Solution:

Make sure the game is not running in the background. If it is - kill it.

Go to ‘C:\Users<your-user>\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved’ and delete everything except for the ‘SaveGames’ folder (if you have it)

Next go to ‘C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy’ and delete everything except for the ‘NotAllowedUnattendedBugReports’ file

Start the game and it should take some time to properly prepare the shader cache for real this time and let you in
