GeForce 566.03 WHQL driver - nvwgf2umx.dll error
Hello. I installed the latest 566.03 WHQL graphics card drivers due to the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It turned out that after installing this driver in games based on the Unreal graphics engine (Hogwarts Legacy) when exiting the game (right before the desktop is displayed) this error occurs. I used other, older drivers for over a month and never had this error. Due to driver security vulnerabilities, I cannot revert to an older version of the drivers.

NVidia moment:uEX: :ermahgerd:

Just wait for a month or two until they fix what they broke.

I would go back to the older driver version if it weren't for these security issues :(

No issues here with those drivers been using them since release day.

Did you try using DDU as directed? Meaning disable network adapter, boot into safe mode, run DDU, make sure "keep nvidia settings" is unchecked and then uninstall drivers, reboot and install 566.03 & monitor driver, reboot again and enable network.

I've always done this with every single driver update since DDU was created, and I always update drivers (and windows and everything else for that matter) the day they're available and I've never had any issues with any game ever or had any need to rollback ever. The one and only issue I ever had was a specific GSync issue almost 2 years ago that was very driver specific and they hotfixed a few days later.

Hope you get it figured out!

Edit: Practically the only games I've been playing this year are UE4/UE5 games

Driver security vulnerabilities: https://www.pcworld.com/article/2504035/security-flaws-found-in-all-nvidia-geforce-gpus-update-drivers-asap.html

Every time I install new Nvidia drivers, I use DDU and do things exactly as you described (clean install, safe mode, etc.).
The error itself does not show up on the desktop, but I found information about it in "View all problem reports" on Windows. And there I found information about the error. Check yours if you have any information there.

I use the RTX 3090 ASUS TUF graphics card.

I'm using 4070 at the moment but my sons system has a 3080 with identical settings in bios/windows/gpu/monitor and doesn't throw an error either.

I didn't find any errors listed in Event Viewer or were you looking someplace else perhaps? Can you paste out the whole error message?

Are you using Reshade? RTSS? Afterburner? The only time I saw an error like yours was when I was using all 3 and it turned out to be afterburner which I stopped using and replaced with Fan Control.

Hyper Threading? Rebar enabled? Using Frame Generation? I haven't used Hyper threading in years I turn it off but I've always used Rebar & FG as well as Gsync for as long as I've been able to.

Edit: It's cold outside and snowed so I'm planning on spending rest of the afternoon inside so I'll tinker around with some settings just to see if I can get it to throw the error and report back if I can do so.

Go to Start and search for Problem Reports. The Review problem reports tool opens, showing you your Windows Error Reporting reports, along with a status about whether it was sent to Microsoft.

I play Hogwarts Legacy in maximum detail. The game is not modded in any way. I have all technologies like Nvidia Reflex, DLSS, FSR disabled.

I'm figuring out this problem and in the system error report it shows up as a game application error, so maybe they need to update it and in the end the graphics card driver itself is fine.

Not only that, but I tested the game earlier on 561.09 whql and I didn't have such an error.

Furthermore, I also wanted to thank you for your interest and involvement in the topic of my problem :)

Thanks for the info and you're welcome!

I checked my own and I do not have any crashes listed for any games at all and only 2 other application crashes from a few months ago, and a few other errors in the previous 9ish months since I installed my current system, every year or so I tend to completely wipe everything and do a fresh Windows install & install whichever games I'm currently playing. For personal stuff like music and whatnot I keep all of that on a different drive so that I don't have to worry about moving things or backing things up when I do that.

I tried turning a few things off and on but so far no crashes, although I do notice that when I shut down the game it seems to take a long time (perhaps 30-40 seconds) before Steam thinks the game is closed. It might have been like this always and I just hadn't noticed though, but I thought maybe I was onto something since for most games it's only a few seconds before whatever game I'm playing is closed and I can start another one or shut down steam.

Later today I will try putting everything back as it was and seeing if the delayed close still happens and if I can trigger it on my own.

Edit: Have you tried looking in Event Viewer (right click on start and choose) and then Custom Views--> Admin Events and search for anything around same time frame as the crash happens? Since it always happens for you it might be easier to trigger the error and then search.. just thoughts!
Normally I use pretty much max settings, Gsync + DLSS & Reflex + Boost and a 120FPS cap although I have no idea if any of those things makes any difference I have some time to kill and like to tinker.. sometimes even more than playing games lol
