I'm replaying it right now and i'm getting constantly reminded of that fact.
I mean, if all you want is to be an in-game god, I'm sure there's mods for that.
tbf it really doesn't change anything which was a bit of a disappointment for me. I was really hoping there'd be some kind of good and evil endings so I could have a dark wizard play through and a good wizard play through. That said I'd still like to experience the other houses just to see their common rooms in game so I'll probably do a few more play through's just for that.
I still enjoy the game don't get me wrong but it could have been SO MUCH better than it currently is.

It's something that needs to be designed from the get-go, or it'll just be like Jedi Fallen Order where they just refunded points and left it at that, all progression was still required for everything. NG+ was not designed into JFO.
HL doesn't have branching paths, sadly. Even a 100% guide before talking to the Asst. Headmaster that final time still results in the "keep working on your Guide" dialog. There's no "evil" other than annoying students (which doesn't matter), using unforgivables (which doesn't matter), and promising to keep the power (which doesn't matter).
In fact, breaking and entering is part of the required gameplay. There's no reason to be "good", either.
Hopefully in HL2, they've considered NG+ from the start and considered consequences that will pop-up throughout the game (and not just some tally of light/dark points at the very end).
We'll see what we'll see. I have no idea how much development is complete, yet. Last I heard was "planning on it", but I haven't tried to keep up with the news on HL2.
The point that many obviously miss is that people that what NGP want to replay it without the reearning/grind they had to before.
Also most games like this have unlocks that you can only get just before the end of the game wich doesn't give the player alot of time to really enjoy it.
This should be easy to understand. Just because you don't want it doesn't mean it shouldn't be added. If its added and you don't like that don't use it.
On NGP playthroughs there are lots of items I tend to not use right away but want to mess around with.
Also the game play is not about progression. Its about adventure and the journey. With NGP the adventure can be different in so many ways. Its an RPG after all.
Also this game and many others like it have higher difficulty for those who want it.
And there are lots of ways to still challenge yourself even after you get all the op stuff.
But hey, what do I know. I'm just a no life gamer....
Regardless we all enjoy the game and this gives us more ways to enjoy it.
Pretty much every mission involving the school would be just a click through if you already had the spell or a better version of it. Sorry, but you really aren't thinking through how a NP+ would work I think. To make something like that work, they would need to completely rebuild the entire game.
