Wand customization gone?

So just came back to this game a bit and in the past I remembered that selecting different types and wood/length/etc would actually change how your wand looked, but this time no matter how I changed my wand it always looked the same. Did they remove it or did I just trigger a weird bug or something?

Visual progression is lacking a lot currently. Hopefully, they will improve this in the future.

that sounds like a bug, once you go to ollivanders to get your own wand you CAN choose how it looks

You can only customize your wand shaft when you first get it. Only thing you can alter on it after that is the handle.
There is a mod though that allows you to change the shaft, as well as your characters looks.

I was at Ollivanders getting my wand but no matter what options I selected it always looked the same.
