How are people able to play the game?
It keeps crashing on preparing the shaders. Is anyone with an Nvidia card with the latest drivers having the same issue?

I have an old GTX 1080 ti, and it plays nice @4k, if your GPU keeps crashing turn down the graphics - high

the game won't even start. It crashes on loading shaders.

Then your GPU is older than mine!

No it's a 3090. Quite a bit newer. Idk how you are playing on 4k with no DLSS. But I fixed it I think. This was the solution.

"C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy and find the four files located inside that folder. Those are the shader files the game creates. Delete all four and relaunch the game, it will rebuild those files."

You can play this game without RTX\DLSS, it's simple GTX was design for 4k gaming when it came out in 2017, glad you found how to fix it!

The RTX 40XX serie seem to crash a lot while loading the shaders or often while playing the game. There has been reports that capping textures at medium helps with the crashes. No patch is expected.

There's also a list of copy paste changes to the configuration files, out there.

I'm running a 4070 Ti and it won't even start anymore. It worked fine last I played it months ago, but now it crashes on launch. No idea what's up but everything else I play runs fine.

I had a 12 year old PC and now a more state of the art rig with a 4070 Ti and no problems on either. Main difference is slightly better graphics quality and time to load game went from about 5 to 10 minutes to under a minute.

You may want to search the discussion board. I vaguely remember seeing a couple of threads where people found a solution to the crashing issue they were having. The only one I remember involved removing a mod or maybe a few. The other one was some kind of simple sounding change to your system. I am not a super tech and remember it sounds like something in my wheel house.

You could delete the configuration files and then set the textures to medium.

turning off turbo boost in bios fixed this for me

I can confirm that turning off accelerated GPU option in windows settings > system > display > graphics > change default graphics settings has fixed this for me
