Mirrors and number puzzles
I have 60 hrs into the game. I have come across a ton of mirrors that highlight with revelio. What are you supposed to do to interact with them? There is no guidance in game at all.

I keep coming across these number puzzles with areas you can interact with an icon and it flips from one symbol to the next. Again, no guidance at all. What do you do with them?

On the mirrors use your light spell. An image will appear, which is where you'll have to go to locate a butterfly to return to the mirror. Get a field guide page.

The door puzzles will show you simple math problems. Animals around the door take the place of a number, ranging from 0 on the bottom left, up and over the door frame to 9 in the bottom right. Then just find the number needed to add up to number shown on the door and input the animal in the ? and ?? spots on the wall.

There is sort of guidance for the mirrors. Somewhere in the castle you will meet a student who is inspecting such a mirror and gives you the quest to find out about it.
The number puzzles do not have any sort of guidance but in my opinion were quite easy to figure out on my own. To make them more difficult in some cases the icons to press are not on the same level or in the same room as the door.

There is actually guidance for the number puzzle as well. It is in a document outside the Arithmancy classroom, which is difficult to find. The "answer key" is as Paranoia_Inc stated in his posting, but isn't really that hard to figure out (I think most people just reason it out for themselves without finding the answer key).

Like be, i did found answer key but i still ended up brute forcing each door.

As for mirror puzzle, each butterfly is usually close by so it should not be too hard to find. On castle someone them might be another floor.

Yeah, good point. All of the butterflies are within about 100 feet (by scale) of the mirror... you just have to find the spot (you may actually be able to see it with Revelio.) Same is true of the Daedalean Keys. Those are even easier, since they cannot pass through doors. It has to be in the same general area as its cabinet. So it is easier to find the cabinets and then search that area for a key, without going through any doors.

Thanks for all the info. Wish I had asked earlier. I have passed by so many of these.

omfg i thought i was being smart because i tried this, but the animal in the bottom left i marked as 1 and not 0!
So i was thinking 1 - 10 and was so confused when the symbols didn't match up. :cleandino:

There's a logic to the numbers, in that each animal has that many appendages, horns, or whatever. It's sometimes hard to tell from the picture, but each animal matches its number in some way.
