I am getting a lot out of the game. I'm level 35 (more than enough to finish the game) but I'm taking my time and still only 75% finished with the challenges and available options. I've also only explored a little over half of the map. (I just noticed a whole new peninsula at the bottom, off the screen). There is plenty to do, and more than enough extra to make another play-through (or several) interesting, especially if you finish the first one quickly (by level 25 or so). Many of the extra areas are listed as being for level 25-40, which is more than you need to finish the main quest.
But I will say, everyone I've talked to outside of the Steam forums loved it.
Were there ways it could have been improved? Absolutely. But that's true of any game. Hopefully, it'll get a sequel and the next game will be even better.
(Also I primarily played it on console, if you're wondering why my play time is so low.)
It was definitely my favorite game I played in 2023. It has sort of a Batman Arkham combat style (pick the right combo as directed more than actual strategies and fighting skill). It also has a definite Tomb Raider (original game) flavor with climbing, finding secrets, and grabbing treasures. A ton of collectables and fetch missions. If you like collecting everything and getting all the Steam achievements, it can become a little tedious/frustrating toward the end.
I have only played it on Easy mode, but I find that the exact balance I like. There is a reason it was a top seller for games in 2023. That said, if you have no background with the Potter lore and want a super tough combat game, you will probably not enjoy it as much. A lot of the charm and fun is how jam packed it is with Lore and moments that are only charming if you have the background.
It's a good journey into Harry potter without Harry potter.
If you want to play as Harry Potter, this game is not for you.
Try to ignore all the woke representation in-game also, else it will just ruin your playtime.
The console versions still get updates though, so if you have to play this game, get one of those.
A lot of stuff that has come out that past couple of years can fill the same sentence:
"Formulaic action rpg with a ________ theme."
