The game is fun for the first few hours. But you soon realize the game is nothing above mediocre in any way. Besides the Hogwarts feel. Very simple and repetitive combat, loot, enemy types, open world aspect. Not that they’re bad they’re just very mediocre and that’s that. The game is a 6/10 at most

It's Good, not great. It's worth it at the current sale price IMO. Keep in mind the limited thumbs up/thumbs down that steam allows us fairly worthless. There is no in between, which is where this game sits. As far as Steam is concerned it's either the greatest game ever or the worst. You can't say "It was just OK."

Wait for it to go on sale for at least 30% off, the graphics are amazing, but everything else is rather mediocre, and of course the Hogwarts campus is really cool. The story wasn't all that for me, and after the first few hours things do get a little repetitive as you said. I'd recommend a buying from a third party website like cdkeys or instant gaming, they have more discounts on there
It's okay but nothing special. The main selling point imo is the charm of being at Hogwarts which the game does a good job of capturing. I wouldn't recommend the game to someone who isn't in to HP and if you are I'd rec it with an asterisk.

There are things that could be expounded upon. You can build structures in the vivaria, but you can't build platforms (floors/bridges) in the water, and you can't place other structures on top of floors that you place (even if they should fit). That makes a third of the swamp and a fourth of the beach vivaria completely useless (decorative?) There is an entire group of players who enjoy building who could benefit from a more friendly (and possibly larger) sandbox.

I am getting a lot out of the game. I'm level 35 (more than enough to finish the game) but I'm taking my time and still only 75% finished with the challenges and available options. I've also only explored a little over half of the map. (I just noticed a whole new peninsula at the bottom, off the screen). There is plenty to do, and more than enough extra to make another play-through (or several) interesting, especially if you finish the first one quickly (by level 25 or so). Many of the extra areas are listed as being for level 25-40, which is more than you need to finish the main quest.

Personally, it was far and away the most fun I had with a game last year. Was it repetitive? Uh... not that I noticed? I was so swept up in exploring the world, advancing the story, and living out my HP fantasy that I didn't really stop to ask myself such a question. The beast-taming left a little to be desired, but that wasn't the main draw for me so I didn't care too much.

But I will say, everyone I've talked to outside of the Steam forums loved it.

Were there ways it could have been improved? Absolutely. But that's true of any game. Hopefully, it'll get a sequel and the next game will be even better.

(Also I primarily played it on console, if you're wondering why my play time is so low.)

I think a lot of the opinion about the game depends on what you are expecting going in. If you have a strong background of Harry Potter books and movies, and don't expect it to be some kind of Jedi/Sith fighting game from Star Wars you will probably love it.

It was definitely my favorite game I played in 2023. It has sort of a Batman Arkham combat style (pick the right combo as directed more than actual strategies and fighting skill). It also has a definite Tomb Raider (original game) flavor with climbing, finding secrets, and grabbing treasures. A ton of collectables and fetch missions. If you like collecting everything and getting all the Steam achievements, it can become a little tedious/frustrating toward the end.

I have only played it on Easy mode, but I find that the exact balance I like. There is a reason it was a top seller for games in 2023. That said, if you have no background with the Potter lore and want a super tough combat game, you will probably not enjoy it as much. A lot of the charm and fun is how jam packed it is with Lore and moments that are only charming if you have the background.

If you want to plunge into Hogwarts world, it's a good game. The game make you do all the things from the books.

It's a good journey into Harry potter without Harry potter.

If you want to play as Harry Potter, this game is not for you.
Try to ignore all the woke representation in-game also, else it will just ruin your playtime.

If I'm being completely honest its a 3 out of 5 at best and quite frankly I know for a fact it wouldn't have sold as well as it did if it wasn't for all the controversy over it . I would advise you to buy it on sale .

Formulaic action rpg with a Harry Potter theme.

It seems to be a good game, if you can play it. I'd get the console version(s) though, as the PC version is a gamble at best. You'll probably be fine, but you might get stuck with unplayable garbage like a fair few around here have, and be unable to get a refund because the developers don't care as they're too busy working on a new spin-off game about Quidditch that honestly likely should've been in this game.

The console versions still get updates though, so if you have to play this game, get one of those.

the game is wonderfully made but its repetitive and can become boring if you are spending too much time with the side stuff. if you stick to the main story it stays interesting.

A lot of stuff that has come out that past couple of years can fill the same sentence:
"Formulaic action rpg with a ________ theme."
