Never watched the movies, so can't recommend on that, but the books are pretty good. First two are a bit of a kids story (still fun to read, but it is what it is). Third one and onward are more mature.
But she loved the game and ended up watching the movies after beating it.
Forget the movies, go grab the books if you want to "catch up", the movies cut so much out it's not even funny.
But yea, if you can get the game to run, it's not a bad game in itself.
You don't need to know a single thing about Harry Potter to fully enjoy this game. I'm willing to go as far as to say that you might enjoy it more. I think it would be really amazing to dive into Hogwarts Legacy without knowing almost everything to expect.
It's an amazing game on its own, without any Harry Potter relationship necessary. Play it.
I love the game, but I love it because of the movies and books. I'd probably find it a 1 off otherwise. There's not really much of a gameplay to return unless you love the lore.
