It was mentioned that in order to get through this situation, you need to set the game's FPS to 60, turn on V-sync from your GPU's control panel, and turn off the game's V-sync Off, and THEN start the quest, see it through, and then fix your settings back the way you had them when you finish.
Another solution mentioned, was saving right before entering the final guardian, and proceed. If the objective changes to "Defeat The guardians", then the quest will end, if not, reload, and re-try.
A Third option that worked for someone, was to completely ignore the wiggenweld potion chest before the last fight.
This is the main reason I'm reluctant to start a new playthrough here, as I don't wish to stuck to this situation. Thankfully, I've finished the game more than once. I guess my Gryffindoor student will have to wait for a fix...
I haven't tried any of those yet. This sounds absurd but it might just work. Thank you.
Ironically, the latest patch was meant to FIX this issue, as it's there from launch, but was easily avoided by restarting the quest... I guess the patch broke it completely...
hahaha, this must be a joke, jokes! good one.
Hmmm..... Maybe if we cast Obliviate on the trial, it may forget about the bug and let us get through it without remembering to glitch!
Maybe it was pure luck, or maybe it just happened, and it was sheer coincidence, or maybe your rig is too old (or too new) for this game to work properly. Too many variables, as a PC isn't "fixed" like a console, and even with the same hardware, you will get different results.
Oh and..... speaking of which, solution #1 worked for me. Surprise, Surprise! Didn't expect that at all, to be honest, after what I've been reading so far...
I was reluctant to start a new character as it would take forever to reach the trial, and I simply reloaded a save from an old one I had since i bought the game (multiple saves FTW) in order to check it out. I have said character since early March, was the first one I finished teh game with.
Considering I already play with a 60 FPS cap and with game V-Sync on, I walked (yes, walked) through the entire quest, opened up all chests, did all that had to be done, and I didn't get the bug. Could be a coincidence, sheer luck, or it could be a one time thing. I didn't try a second time.
Perhaps the bug might affect new characters, deluxe edition owners, or those who claimed the Ronan robes. I really don't know...
I haven't played the game since the latest patch, and what i DID notice however, was a "border" around my character when i turned the camera, as if having a faint "mouse trails" effect, and some wacky black triangle shapes that were appearing here and there from time to time, when ancient magic was triggered.
Edit: If you ask me, the devs have no excuse for keeping a game breaking bug for this long active, and they definitely need to address it, as soon as possible.
I'm glad it worked for you, truly! Nothing has worked for me, unfortunately. They should obviously work on fixing this bug.
