Not able to launch hogwarts legacy
I’ve been having trouble launching the game. I can’t launch it, it shuts itself down, I can’t do anything on the game. We reinstalled it,but nothing seems to be helping. Can anyone help?

Have you tried flushing your shader cache? Open a cmd window as admin and do this:

del /F /Q "%LocalAppData%\NVIDIA\DXCache\*"
del /F /Q "C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy\*"

(I'm not trying to trick you into deleting something important. Google those commands and you'll find that they just clear out your shaders.)

Let us know if it works! I don't have this problem but lots of others do.

Also, what does it say in the crash log?

- In Windows Explorer paste the following in the address bar: %LocalAppData%\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Crashes

- A bunch of folders will appear, one for each time Hogwarts Legacy crashed.

- Click on "Date Modified" to sort by date.

- In the most recent folder, look for a file called "CrashUserData.json"

- If there isn't one, try the next most recent folder until you find one.

- Left click the file, then right click and select "Open With" and then "Notepad".

- In the second line it will say "ErrorMessage:" and then an error.

What is the error?

Mine is showing the following error message:
"SessionId": "625C9BFA40CC498A38E149BC93A61DE9",
"ErrorMessage": "Unhandled exception",

I tried the command prompts and they didn't fix the issue.

Well that's disappointing, but it was worth a try. The error message is (sadly) completely unhelpful. So we still have no information to work with. Do you have any mods or UE4SS installed? If so, temporarily remove them (just move them to a directory on your desktop) and see if that helps. It usually works for me. Play the game for a few minutes to generate a few autosaves, then exit the game. Replace your mods and UE4SS (if you had it), then restart the game. Try loading a manually saved game, but if that doesn't work try an autosave. For some reason the autosaves seem to load more reliably after a patch update like this.

Yeah, that error message doesn't tell us anything useful, unfortunately. Did you try my other suggestions?

I keep getting this:

Couldn’t start: D:\program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\hogwarts legacy\phoenix\binaries\win64\hogwartslegacy.exe
Phoenix createprocess () returned 2e4

Weird! I think that means you have to run it as admin. Or if it's already running as admin, stop running it as admin. Dunno why that would suddenly pop up though.

If that doesn't work, use Steam to verify your game files.

We tried running it as admin yesterday, but that didn’t help either…

Super weird. And this started with the June 2nd update?

Make sure you are not running game AND steam under different administrator rights.

-Start steam as administrator

-Navigate into your game folder (install location)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\ and set process executable HogwartsLegacy.exe as admin

-Then navigate into (install location)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Binaries\Win64 and set game executable HogwartsLegacy.exe as admin too

-Try to start the game :steamhappy:

If did not helped, you can delete/refresh steam cache in case some files were corrupted

-Close steam
-Type “%localappdata%” in the start search screen and open it.
-Delete the “Steam” folder in the new window that opens.
-Re-Run steam

Regards :)

Regarding @BleaD92 problem:

-Run "Command Prompt" as administrator and write command sfc /scannow
-Download and use Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool
