Did performance improve
I bought the game after release and refunded due to very poor optimization. Did the patches significantly improve CPU usage and made the game run better?

Can't believe they did this to us...
The game runs far better than launch for me, I also followed some advice and actually turned DLSS off, and for some messed up reason the game is running great now, the one thing that just can't be avoided for me are the "traversal" slowdowns that happen when you run into an area and it's loading in the background, but it's usually a second or two.

its a great fun game... but terrible performance and a lot of crashing... I have a ryzen 9 5900x 64gb ram and a rtx 3080 ti... its not my pc :p

It isn't abandoned. They are actively working on a patch:

Lol at the people who ♥♥♥♥♥ about the game not running. I have a computer that is arguably worse then all of yours and yet I can run the game near max with literally no issues or crashes. You either have something wrong with your computer, or a specific driver/piece of hardware/program that isnt reacting well to the game. It is less then a 5% percentage of people who are having issues running the game. It might suck to be one of them, but its clear the game has done its part honestly.

What do you guys know about optimization anyway?
Lagomin Apr 30, 2023 @ 3:01pm
Yes. improvements still underway

No improvements. Last patch was 2 months ago. They're probably all hands on deck trying the get the PS4 and XBOX 1 version playable before it launches in 5 days.

Does mean anything.

Until Avalanche says they are aware and are working on certain issues, which they haven't, their deafening silence is a good indicator that they've reached their sales goals and feel that they no longer need to invest more time, money and resources into improving the game.

I hope they prove me wrong.

If I were to guess Unreal Engine has always had stuttering issues. Now that they're working on UE5 they're finally investing time on figuring out this issue. I assume the stuttering stems from resources that are being loaded and unloaded off screen among other CPU intensive processes that bottleneck the work load.

From what I understand Unreal Engine 4 (particularly in open world environments) works best on consoles since the gpu and cpu are basically integrated in a single chipset. So there's no bandwidth issues there. Since on PC the CPU and GPU are separate chipsets this inherently creates bandwidth issues regardless of how powerful your hardware is.

It's the same for (V)RAM. The PS5 and Series X have a unified(!) RAM pool of about 16 GB with 12 GB available to the developer. Most mainstream GPUs out there have to still deal with less and have to off load to system RAM when VRAM runs out, again creating bandwidth issues.

Both these "issues" make porting UE4 engine games to PC a challenge.

"honestly", "HONESTLY"?
I "honestly" think you're full of *@!t, Steam Level 0.
I have a RAID 10 that would EAT most PC's and I experience stuttering and lag on 4K, Ray-Tracing/Ultra Settings. When I place my settings on "near max", I still have performance issues.
Bottom line: the game should've been better optimized, and the vast majority of grievances reflect sincere and warranted sentiments - in other words, they're being "honest".

Caveat, Steam Level 0: if you are truly the anomaly that is experiencing excellent results - with, by your own, admission, an "arguably worse" computer - then have the integrity not to undermine ALL of these others' experience by belittling their gripes as "♥♥♥♥♥[ing]".
Have more integrity than that, Steam Level 0.
Deuces
