Nobody forces you to use potions. In the last 20-30 hours of the game, including the final boss fight I used only a few health potions, despite the fact I had the max. amount of each other potion. In the first half of the game potion are useful, after that you need only health potions if you play on Normal difficulty. I regret I wasted talent points for talents that boost potions' effects.
This is not unique to this game, you can see it in several other RPGs. I remember it was pretty much the same in Witcher 3.
BTW potions are nothing compared to Avada Kedavra, which kills the nastiest trolls and mini-boses in one hit. It's good it's the last spell you learn, otherwise the game would be completely broken.
Maybe but remember this game also has a very limited amount of offensive spells. Enemies have the HP they have probably by design, not many combos you can do and combat can get tedious. Just kill a dugbog without slicing its tongue or flipping it on its back, it's extremely boring.
vs making the wolfs 2-3x faster and more aggressive, less delays in their attacks with a tiny health upgrade. say 50% more hp than normal
that way they are an ACTUAL threat. AND dont always get one shot lmao
masssssssove difference
(also then just dont play on that difficulty if you dont like it???)
there is a big difference between
A) just giving enemies a lot more HP (boring and lazy)
or
B) making enemies more aggressive and do more dmg and be an actual threat you cant OHKO with any spell in the game
for example
wolves in default game on hard stand around and do nothing a lot. they do almost NO dmg at all. and they get DESTROYED by literally anything you use.
now imagine if they attacked twice as fast. ran around you more, were in slightly larger groups. with a minimal hp boost so you dont one shot them
(also just dont play on that difficulty if you dont like it???)
nah, it would be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying
they could easily do souls forced difficulty but instead of hard just have it be a set easy experience.
story is creative mode and hard is easy.
makes no sense. the set difficulties OR your argument
My main playthrough (100%) was on hard so I got used to all enemies but once I replayed on story it is actually laughable how slow enemies are and how little they attack.
Like, if you just compare story to hard you will see a huge difference in that.
While yes, they get killed easily in my playthrough they were aggressive as ♥♥♥♥ all the damn time. Especially in battle arenas it got really annoying since they were everywhere.
cmobat was easy from start to finish and besides dugbogs which are very predictable to dodge/parry almost every enemy was easily one shot and stood around hardly doing anything.
I can sit there and watch enemies dawdle around on hard. hard is easy mode imo. easy and story modes are equal to creative in minecraft.
comparitvely they are different.
hard is still extremely easy though. a shame to even call it hard. thats also to say I never used potions or plants or gear upgrades, which with the current difficulty even on hard are made useless by how easily you 1shot and out speed everything.
If you compare the difficulties to one another you will realize that hard is, compared to story, pretty damn hard.
I just don't even have the expectation anymore for hard modes to be a challange for me considering how many games I beat and I think with casual games such as this one that's okay. Especially since there is not even an achievement for it or anything like that.
Though, sure, an actual HARD mode will always be a nice addition. To any game.
enemies will be in larger groups attack more frequently know more spell combos, be higher level than you (no overleveling) items and upgrades will be more expensive
you will be more encouraged to buy things, more encouraged to use the room of requirement, and have to actually use strategy to overcome enemies or struggle in a longer duel with them
an actual challenge for those who want it. such as myself.
you come across a spider den with this mode and you will be facing 5-15 large spiders and small spiders flailing themselves and surrounding you, you will have to utilize fire and keep on your toes as you counter their constant shots
they cant be 1-shot easily you will have to utilize proper weaknesses to take down enemies, in the situation confringo and incendio will destroy the group especailly with the upgrades. watch them all frantically run around and overcome the enemy.
vs vanilla hard. 4 spiders you shot once or twice and they are dead. amazing. lol
even the tutorial im using to test is so much more fun.
the enemies flying at you one after the other getting 1-2 shots in between dodges and counters, having to pacify the group to take them down because they are relentless. actual challenge makes the combat more satisfying because you are using skill and knowledge to overcome and actual threat.
