Bird vs Broom
is there a reason to ride the bird vs the broom? Is one faster than the other? The bird seems much more cumbersome and unwieldy, so wanted to see if it had any perks the broom didn't.
cheers

Broom is faster than bird, bird is faster than walking. Can't upgrade birds.

Hippogriffs have the advantage over Broom that, while not as high in top speed, they won't run out of boost when flying at high altitude.

So for long distance trips or when you want to avoid combat by flying at high alt, beast mounts can actually be quicker overall, or at least more convenient.

What are you talking about? Brooms don’t have a height or boost limitation?

Yes, brooms have a boost limitation. it is the yellow boost bar at the right bottom hand of the screen when mounted on your broom. This is the main reason you want to get the broom updates as the boost empties slower when further upgraded.

Is this new? Literally never noticed this when I played the game months ago. I don’t play it now either. Brooms have always been faster than beasts.

Not new, been there since the very beginning. Also you have infinite boost as long you you fly near ground or just above trees.

Man I played the game wrong. I didn't have an issue with the flight speed at any height but didn't know about the boost thing on the ground. Maybe that's why I couldn't beat the 3 course XD.

The boost limit can be upgraded to where you can ride a little higher from the ground without using boost with a little longer boost when flying higher. It requires racing sidequests.

Hippogriffs do not have a boost which also means no height limit as their speed is just their speed. Good for long distances without having to boost and recharge or having to follow the ground contour.

Me? I just followed the ground contour, but I do see the appeal of just chilling while travelling. I only used the "floo network" when I wanted to get something done quick. Otherwise, I took a broom.

For the first half of my first playthrough, I didn't even notice that there was a boost meter and didn't realize that the broom slowed down. I just held the trigger even though the boost was completely gone.

For the races, you get boost bonuses by going through the "bubbles" or whatever those are. You get a short speed increase and refill of the boost meter. The 3rd one lets you miss only one ring and boosting as long as you can if you want to have any chance of beating the top time.
