Is this even a good game for NON Harry Potter nerds?
seriously this game screams over hyped over praised and over sold, I mean for God's sake look at the studio's past games. Is this game simply running off from Harry Potter book nerds?

I'm not sure about that.

It's a solid fantasy game, but Shadow of Mordor / War, was a solid fantasy game too that rather was targeted onto LotR-nerds.

WB Games is the publisher of these games and even if the developer differs between all their titles (Mad Max, Batman, Shadow, ...) they have a formula for their games which gets added to all of them.

Like useless collectibles (mostly skins) and a nice looking statistics with a percentage meter.
I personally completed Mad Max to 100% either, as the good thing about WB Games is they always go after atmosphere.
And I can't say that any of their games I listed had a bad atmosphere to me.
Basically the atmosphere drives me to get out the most of the game, even doing some quite repetitive tasks and collecting all stuff available.

But if you go rather for innovative gameplay elements, quests with dozens of awesome plot twists, you may not be so keen about the game.

I love it really much, but then again I am also very into the franchise by J.K. Rowling.

It depend, some do, some don't. Some have stuttering, lagging, bugged quests and such.

Otterwise, the game is classical, no ground broke here, nothing new. It's a grab, play, go next experience.
If you enjoy exploration and mild pewpewin' combats with a little bit of combos it can be fun. Don't think about it if :
-If you want to roleplay
-you want to care about npc/the warudo
-challenging combats
-puzzles that need all your brain-cells
-a great diversity in gameplay

I watched the first movie and that was it never followed it after that. I'm personally enjoyed the game, but I enjoy ubisoft open worlds as well and this just seemed like more of the same openworld clear the icons on the map game.

Whether it is a good game or not aside, the events of this game take place a full century prior to the books era.
As long as you know what "Hogwarts" is and what the wands do, you're pretty much overqualified in terms of lore knowledge.

I have not read the Harry Potter books, neither have seen any movie.
I still enjoy this game very much. I think it's worth the money I payed for it, but that is of course a personal opinion.

Would I enjoy it even more when I had read the above boos and watched the movies? Probably yes. But to be honest, this game is fun enough to play without having any story background. I never had the feeling I was missing something out.

But that's your answer from my perspective as a totally background-blind player.

If you liked the last 3 asscreed titles, you'll probably like this.

Honestly ? I think you really missed nothing. All the page field, the whole pokedex, the dialogues, all that give you a solid knowledge about the universe. If you were to read all the codex entries you would know the universe better than someone that just watched the movies.

The game do quite a good job at being true to the universe without being exclusive and having to player to know "what is those".

I don't like Harry Potter - I never read the books, watched the first two movies, and was so annoyed by the main character (and some others) that I skipped the rest. But I do like this game. It's certainly not the best I ever played, and it does have its flaws, but it also works very well in other regards.

I agree that the developer's pedigree gave reason for skepticism. A project of this scale was definitely a huge step upward for them. But, you know, sometimes people rise to the challenge and surprise you, if you just give them the opportunity.

Whether you'll like the game, will depend on what you're looking for. Hogwarts Legacy has amazingly detailed, varied environments (especially in Hogwarts itself), high-definition graphics that hold up very well if you get close, poor performance in some areas, an okay story (but nothing stellar), lots of side quests and events that really help with immersion, lots of interesting details to discover (if you're not averse to reading short texts), and an open world that feels very varied and engaging in the beginning (but eventually repetitive and boring if you're trying to do everything, which, however, you don't need to do).

Indeed!

To the OP - here's an example that illustrates how the game creates an interesting world without being exclusive:

Right at the beginning, you'll see a carriage that is drawn by invisible creatures. Then there is an accident, and suddenly you can see winged, dark, horse-like animals in the reins. A Potter fan will immediately know what this means. I didn't, I thought that the invisibility of the draft "horses" was probably an enchantment that got dispelled during the accident.

But later in the game, you learn that these animals are thestrals, and that they can only be seen by people who have seen death. Multiple dialogs between characters reference this, and I think it's also explained on the collectible card for these animals. So the game does build on lots of interesting ideas from the franchise, but very often offers explanations for people who don't know much about this world. These are provided in an unobtrusive manner - embedded in dialog, or on collection cards that you can read at your leisure. I think the writers did a really good job in this regard.

What kind of games do you enjoy ? If you can enjoy the wicher 3 without the writing quality and side quest quality, it is this kind of open world + very repetitive.

If you are not into HP, i will tell no. You will get very bored past 10 hours. Even as HP fan you can get bored after 10-15 hours ><

I'm not a Harry Potter fan at all, and tbh I find it pretty cringe when adults are into the fandom...
That said, the game is great. If you're into the general theme of magic and enjoy exploration, this game is definitely for you, Harry Potter nerd or not.
