Casting without a wand
Is it within the overall HP lore to be able to cast without a wand? Or is it supposed to be impossible?

It's in overall HP lore yes.

there are examples of casting without wands in the books, not that many though, but they do exist.
we see some wizards like albus dumbledore do it, and of course house elves like dobby.
it is illegal for any non human to use a wand yet house elves use magic all the time.

The entire point of the quill and book, is that they detect kids who exhibit magical traits.
Often this comes in the form of performing magical acts.
So yeah, doing magic without a wand is a thing ... it's probably easier to teach structured spells with a wand, though. At least it's how it's done in the best school in the world.

it is suppose to be difficult and dangerous which is why only the most experience wizard and witches could do it as far as the lore goes... but wandless magic do exist... i mean, just look at house elf's magic, all their magic is wandless. plus harry himself use wandless magic by accident at the beginning of the story..

I mean in Africa they all use magic without wand also a lot of them are animagus , dont know if its oficial but thats what Natsai says. She even tells you that her animal form is a Gazelle and thats why her mother dont want her to leave school territory cause poachers would insta hunt her down(not knowing shes a human). So yes its possible to cast magic with no wand and dont forget that magic is used in all parts of the world not only Europe or North America. Pretty sure the Asian continent has a whole diferent view on magic but no clue about that just pure speculation.

there is an article on Uagadou on wizarding world which mentions this wandless magic. it also mentions that the students there are well versed in Astronomy, Alchemy and self - transfiguration. it also mentions a symposium of animagi where the Uagadou school team attracted a lot of attention with their sychronized transforming nearly caused a riot. with many adult wizards feeling threatened by 14 year olds who could transform into elephants and cheetah's
at the bottom of this article it says original writing by j.k. rowling, these days also known as "she who must not be named."

He does it in the films too when he stops Harry from falling during Quidditch with Arresto Mementum.

Another example: Harry was able to wandlessly summon his "dropped out of reach" wand, at the start of the 5th book when he was attacked by dementors, IIRC. Only scene he managed wandless, non-accidental magic, that I recall, but it shows it can be done.
