Report a translation problem
As far as I remember gear collection counts only "special" appearances that you obtain through quests and by completing challenge logs. The regular "junk" appearances (hundred variations of the same robe, etc) that you get from beating enemies and opening random chests don't count to it.
Could be, haven't gotten that far yet, I just read the Collector achievement and by completing collections I assumed it meant actually getting the full # shown on the collections menu, which does include junk item appearances if I recall. If not then it's kind of silly imo.
