Throw rocks back at troll and smash in face

Title. I've tried Depulso the entire way, from yellow ring around head, to getting smashed in the face by troll rock. The troll keeps nailing me with the rock no matter how fast\slow I use the spell. How am I supposed to repel the boulder back at him and win the challenge? I'm used to split second time events but this is crazy.

You don't use depulso. You need to use ancient throw after blocking it with protego.

Just tap 'Q' for Protego and then 'Z' (or whatever key/button you have for ancient magic throwing.) Don't hold the "Q" key for any length of time, though, as the "Stupefy" shot from that will add too much time for you to grab the boulder.

What I'd like to know is how the Hell I'm supposed to "Steal a ranger's crossbow bolt."
Expelliarmus makes them drop the crossbow, but there's no way to target or pick it up.

You can steal the crossbow bolt like as the red unblockable warning comes up when they're shooting at you, hit z while looking at them when they're aiming at you.

just as they're about to fire, you get an option to grab the bolt like you would any barrel or other item and throw it with ancient magic

Edit: Hit Q for shield, than ancient throw (My dumbass was trying to reflect it back at him lol)

I thought ancient throwing was limited for a while for no reason, now I know you can just spam it until there's no objects left lol.

Basically you just dodge instead of block when they do the overhead swing and then use Flipendo

You have a very short time window to cast Flipendo. The troll will swing twice to the sides, then raise the club over his head. I think you need to cast Flipendo after he started smashing the club down, but before it hits the ground (or you, obviously).

In the quest "Plight of the house elf", there's a troll you can practice on. He's in a sort-of arena with an exit that you can use as your escape. After going through the door, you'll be out of the troll's reach, as he's too big to enter the passage. But you can still attack him and cast spells on him, you just have to re-open the door whenever it closes itself.

There's also a moment after he overhead smashes the club and it sticks into the ground. If you dodge then Repulso it will sometimes smack him in the face. I think you need to wait for him to "un-stick"it in the animation before casting and be facing the right direction if you don't have the Repulso upgrade. (I couldn't get this to work reliably, so will try the Flipendo method mentioned above.)
