Crash error "out of memory allocating render resource..."

just got a new desktop rig with nvidia geforce rtx 3060 and hogwarts legacy is thus far the only game that i cannot seem to run, as it almost always crashes after selecting my save file. No issues with preparing shaders or reaching the character select screen though. On a few rare attempts where I was able to load the world, there was obvious rendering issues and ultimately crashed anyway upon certain actions like Revelio, flashrolling, or boosting on the broomstick.

About half of these crashes generate a popup with a message saying something like "out of memory allocating a rendering resource... make sure your gpu has enough memory..."

I sent a ticket to WB and they said to verify file integrity, reinstall, etc, all of which I did but seemingly did nothing to combat the crashes.

Checked some posts here and tried other fixes involving changing settings in nvidia control panel, pasting some command lines in the game's Engine file, playing with in-game graphic settings, etc, but still no luck. I have the latest drivers and everything, optimizing the game via geforce experience does nothing either.

Not sure what else to do. Strange how my previous Dell inspiron g515 gaming laptop ran the game with no sweat but my desktop rig cannot

Hey, the game was running fine before i updated my gpu drivers yesterday (531.18).
I have a rtx 4080 and i do encounter the same error message.

My guess is the game doesn't detect the gpu anymore and use intel graphics.
Maybe i'll try to go back with the previous nvidia update (528.49)

Unless you're using a laptop that's impossible. Desktops can only use the graphics adaptor that a display is plugged into.

Yep latest driver did the same thing to me. Went back to the 02/08/2023 driver and all is fine again. Not sure if it is Nvidia's issue or WBs?

I found this in another steam forum post and it fixed it.
1. Using Windows file explorer, toggle View->Show->Hidden items
2. Go to C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy
3. Delete the 4 files there
4. Restart the game, it will take longer to do all the "Shader loading" (same as when it's run the first time)

Okay I believe I have solved MY problem

WB redirected me to another thread on the official support forum wherein I followed this fix given by Mikespnc -

Ive managed to fix the issue so far for me by increasing the virtual memory.

to do so:

click the windows icon and type in about and hit enter.
scroll down and click advanced system settings
click the advanced tab and click the first option settings
click the advanced tab on the new window that has opened and click change on virtual memory
disable automatically mange page file size, at the top
then increase the custom size for the drive the games installed on to
For me I changed mine to 15000

Apparently I forgot that I installed hogwarts on a hard drive OTHER THAN the main one and had not set a virtual memory size range for said hard drive (it was set to 'none' by default) so I input a range of 1024-15000 on the drive where the game is installed, and now I can actually play the game!

NVIDIA released new driver today,states it fixes out of memory error with last of us part1, so maybe it will fix Hogwarts too

Probably need to clear the shader cache
