Don't install new nVidia driver 531.26 hotfix
I installed the new nVidia hotfix they just dropped because 531.18 was hogging the CPU. Well, guess what.....531.26 instantly maxed out all 24 cores of my AMD Ryzen 9 3900X when I loaded Hogwarts. Running on 528.49 works OK.

Is the game freezing/not responding? because that'll make it look like it's eating your entire CPU because... well it's not responding.

AMD is having a similar issue with it's new driver update. I've posted the fix about 3-4 times now in different threads that worked for me. Try deleting the 4 files found in C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy. To force your game to compile it's shaders for your new drivers.

having the same problem... I've tried to go to the C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy but I can only find 2 files there.

What new driver? The latest is 531.18 at geforce.com

Yeah it's maxing out your CPU because it's compiling the shaders again since you updated your drivers. It did the same to me and looked like the game was frozen, but I could see the drive activity light on my PC blinking like crazy so I knew it was working. It only took a minute or two.

Yeah, but 24 cores at 100%? Come on.......this shouldn't happen with today's games. None of my other games even came close.

Would you rather it compile the shaders slower? it's using all the cores for a reason.

Same drivers, but 5900X. Not as close to 100%. Used 16 threads for shader compilation.

"instantly" you mean when it compiles shaders? Let it do it, and then it will got back to normal, whats the big deal.

I can't even load the game at all it just stops responding and I have to close it through the task manager.

I never instal or update my drivers until i actually have an issue with them... when i get the popup according to it I'm still on version 526 LOL

I just downloaded because I got a popup saying my drivers had a known issue. I ignored it originally but got my first crash in 38 hours of play. So I thought, okay maybe they did do something and now there is an issue.

Downloaded the driver and the first time i launched the game the screen stayed black for a while. closed with task manager. Read this thread and launched again while watching Performance in Task Manager. Took less than a minute and game launched second time with no issues

That's because the game does a benchmark and compiles shader cache. Your CPU maxed out because that's what benchmarks do.

Your game didn't load because of your lack of patience for the process to complete. This is going to happen every time you update your driver and then launch this game.

Well just crashed at the exact same spot as when I posted this, so driver update didnt help

What was happening was the game was using all 24 cores at 100% in-game AFTER the shaders were compiled. Oh, and why does the game compile the shaders EVERY time I launch the game?
