Confringo "Curse"?
NOT A GAMEPLAY QUESTION

When I think of curses in the HP universe, I think of the three Unforgivables. But what makes Confringo a curse? Is it just because of its violent or dangerous nature? Because if so, then wouldn't Bombarda and Incendio also be curses? Are they curses?

A friend of mine told me that the books call basically any offensive spell a "curse".

So if it causes harm on its own without a follow-up spell, then it's a curse? Ah okay.
Thank you and your knowledgeable friend!

I think that's the gist of it, yes. It's been a while since I asked him.

Even within that reduction, there is nuance. The Harry Potter universe dabbles in calling some things jinxes (typically a de minimis or even amusing negative impact), other things hexes (a moderate negative impact), and then curses (a profound negative impact).

Confringo within that framework is decidedly a curse, as it literally blows up sh!te into pieces.
