Radeon 7900 XT crashes after 7-8 minutes of play
I played the game all the way through on my old gaming rig with a much inferior GPU. All visual settings were on low but the game played pretty well. I just got a new system with a Radeon 7900 XT and I can't even get a new character the sorting ceremony. It took 4 tries just to get to Gringots with me skipping as much as I could. The game just crashes to desktop after 7 or 8 minutes of play.

The game looks fabulous while its running. Everything on Ultra (with no Ray Tracing) and the FPS is maxed at my resolution and the GPU barely seems to notice. Then it crashes. For the heck of it I added Ray Tracing (just to see if something different helped). GPU noticed that as it was now running capped and the FPS was much lower but still serviceable, but crashed after about the same play time. This time when it crashed my desktop didn't recover.

I have the latest drivers from AMD via AMD Software Adrenaline Edition. Are there other drivers I can try?

Seems to be an issue with the latest driver (23.3.1). I have a 6900 XT. Had 3 crashes in the last hour alone whereas with the previous driver, everything worked fine for extended sessions.

Gonna roll back to the previous one since that one worked without any issues with this game. Use DDU too and report back to see if anything changes, I'll do the same.

I have a 7900XT and my wife has a 6700XT and both play fine on 23.2.2 and 23.3.1 so it might be some hardware combo or some setting. We both have Ryzen CPUs too BTW. Do you have re-sizable BAR enabled on your MOBO?

Oh would you look at that, there's a hot fix out!
AMD GPU's make you put up with issues indefinitely.

...
Bro most GPU drivers on all sides are basically packaged hotfixes, what hill are you trying to die on

That's the PC lottery for us.

I'm done with the game after 70 hours+ never had any issues like this on my 7900 xtx, not one crash just a little stutter in Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.

I mean, you made a point about Nvidia drivers having hotfixes, and AMD's new drivers have hotfixes of their own. Hell, one of the recent ones (ie. 23.2.1) even addressed Hogwarts Legacy performance. To claim "AMD GPUs make us put up with issues indefinitely" is false.

Not to mention, the devs have had to patch the game for Nvidia GPUs having lower performance COMPARED to AMD due to a specific driver issue users have been reporting. It's in their release notes. So, it's an even ground for all.

I honestly don't know what else to tell you. Stay petty, this isn't going anywhere. And I realize I'm being petty too, so... cheers.

23.2.1 has been running fine for me on my 7900 XTX in Hogwarts Legacy. With up to 6-8 hour sessions. Don't use any older driver though, because they have the white snow issue on trees.

I don't feel 23.2.2 is worth it, the fixes in that driver don't apply to me. When they fix the high idle power consumption (80W on idle, the vram never underclocks lol), then I may update.

"crashed my desktop didn't recover."
Make sure that the AMD Crash Defender Service is running.

ReBAR increases framerates of up to about 15fps (at 4k), but, GPU temperature also rises by 5°c with a hefty bump in power consumption.

I've personally had issues with both NVidia and AMD GPUs, indefinitely. I've actually had more problems with Nvidia over the years. My setup didn't even show anything on screen at all with a 4090, indefinitely.
