That only works on the lower difficulty settings.

I have no problem with a puzzle. The problem is that it is not a puzzle. It is just a time sink. All puzzles in the game are far too easy. They are nicely made, but require no actual thinking or logic. They just require rudimentary motions.

I keep telling myself that the game is for little kids...but then I remember that I didn't have 60 bucks when I was a little kid. Either way, your characterization of the problem is correct.

This has always irked me as well. I agree with Pipe Dreams: its a magical spell, not a lockpick. its frustrating. we saw it work in the movies and then in game we saw Prof. fig use it...it was instantaneous unlocking..not lockpicking! we saw other students use it, again instant unlock!...but we, the player have to do this ridiculous lockpicking mini-game, because that is a video game staple. This is also similar to how in almost EVERY video game, every cop ignores all crimes commited by NPCs, but if the player does anything (even when no cops around) you get hunted to death, And God forbid you should need to defend yourself!

not only is the lockpick minigame tedious and annoying, but now that I've finished the main story, I feel like there was no real gain in opening the hundreds of locks. it just added to the pile of gold I was left with at the end.. I guess maybe if you're trying to 100% the game, but otherwise, skip em, I'd say

The lockpicking is ok. It just seems seems shoehorned into hit that checklist of game mechanic tropes. Like you have to do a minigame for lockpicking. Even when it doesn't make a lot of sense. None of the other spells require any kind of mechanics save aiming and object manipulation. It's very "video gamey".

Also, a lot of locks just lead to nothing of real value, it seems. Like I pass this level one lock for 20 hours of gameplay, come back with Alohamora and there's just a sack with like 10 coins.

I complete the lock between 3 and 5 seconds. I don't understand the hate speech.

I don't care if it's 1 second per lock. It's a spell, not a lockpick. The lock should open automatically, period.

Would you be saying the same thing if Incendio or Confringo required you to start a campfire or carry a torch to work? Same principle.
PS: "Hate speech" has a completely different meaning. Look it up before using it again, please.

They could've at least make puzzles harder or easier according to the lock level but it's the same throughout all levels. Lol, pure laziness.

Because easy is boring, duh.

I was expecting level 2 and 3 to be different, but no.

Either way just glad it doesn't take a lot of time to complete them so it's no bother to me lol.

its 5-10 seconds a lock... jeebus

I'm more annoyed that it's a trivial, tedious, repetitive joke of a game mechanism that adds no fun or nothing else of value to the game, so I bypass the whole dreary progress. It it serves to entertain you after the 100th time of doing, good luck to you because you must be VERY easily entertained.

i hadn't even given lockpicking a second thought untill i saw this post, and i still think its a pointless post ..but each to their own. :)

It's the worst thing about the game gameplay wise. First because it's redundant as hell, makes no sense since the spell itself is meant to unlock stuff so why do you cast the spell and have to "act" like the spell by unlocking the door yourself. It's just silly.

Second, it's just a bad lockpicking game really.

I use the mod posted above. Just saves time and its much better immersion wise.
