Venomous Revenge glitch

I find this kind of annoying, but it seems you don't actually have to do this quest to complete this quest. I spoke with Ackley Barnes, heard his quest, gave the "I'll think about it" reply, and then turned around immediately and spoke with him again to see if I could refuse the quest. I happened to have a venomous tentacula (from my garden in the RoR), and sold it to him. Now I get flack from Sirona about breaking into Lawley's and stealling his plant. It took me searching for the dude's house and figuring out where the plant was supposed to be before I realized, I never took it even by accident. I hadn't been in there. It's kind of frustrating since I'd been working hard on being a stand up Gryffindor student. I was saving the bad deeds for a different house.

Same thing, never been in the cellar, don't know why it happens though.

Having the same issue - didn't break into the house, solved the quest by using my own plant. Heck.

The alternative of giving him one of your own I think is intended (grown or bought). Your character will even say they will find another way.

The reaction that you broke in sounds concerning. But Barnes would probably go around mouthing off that you did what he wanted. IDK if that is intended though.

That makes sense, but the guy that owned the plant should have known it wasn't his.

Here's one for all of you....I stole the tentacula but didn't get yelled at by Sirona. I think the reason is because I tried to give it to Ackley Barnes but for some reason the quest didn't get completed. It's telling m to go back to the cellar.

same, i hate that the game doesn't recognize that you never stole. it kinda breaks the immersion to hear Sirona give me crap about something i never did every time i go to the three broomsticks now

Old thread but, just did the quest, when asking for compensation after "stealing" it flags it as me stealing it but turning in my own without asking for payment flagged it as me finding it elsewhere and not wanting to steal.

I guess the difference is "good guy" no reward option instead of "bad guy" "this cost me effort, so pay up".
