Have you tried using steam profiles?
I only have PC controllers.
It’s an Xbox style PC controller. It works fine in other games. All of a sudden Hogwarts giving me this issue. I have 8 hours played fine.
Since it did work after I changed accounts, I know it was a settings in either Steam or Hogwarts Legacy. Resetting the controller behaviour (Gameplay options) did not help, and Controller behaviour can't be set (there is no reset in Control options).
So I disabled Steam Input for Hogwarts Legacy, and thankfully that resolved my issue. Apparently, the problem is with how Steam translates the PS5 input to a generic controller input. The native controller support for Hogwarts Legacy seems fine.
You can do this as follows:
* Go to your Steam Games Library
* Right-click on Hogwarts Legacy, and select "Properties..."
* Go to the controller tab, and for the "Override for Hogwarts Legacy" setting, select "Disable Steam Input".
* Restart Hogwarts Legacy
Hopefully, this will work for you.
After posting the above, I realised that Steam nowadays has full support for playstation controllers, both in the Steam user interface (only in the big picture mode), but also in games. Hence, I disabled DS4Windows, and enabled Steam Input for my type of controller. I then re-enabled Steam Input for Hogwarts Legacy. After that, it did work fine in Hogwarts Legacy.
Your mileage may vary, but indeed it may pay off to go to Steam Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings (or: External Gamepad Settings, if you are on a Mac): there enable the Steam Input for the type of controller you have (Xbox, Playstation, Switch, or generic controller). Of course, ensure that Hogwarts Legacy uses Steam Input.
Alternative, go the other way around, as I explained in my previous post: run something like Ds4Windows, and disable Steam Input. This will use a different input, and may just help you play the game.
Anyway to fix the button mapping? Seems that you can not edit this in the actual game
