Why are the Elves treated so bad?
I never read the books and have only a passing familiarity with the movies. So i legit do not understand the Elf situation.

I'm not even talking from a moral standpoint. The sun is hot. Water is wet. Slavery is naughty. Insert more obvious statements here.

Slavery has existed in every culture at every time in human history until relatively recently. I get the concept of slavery. But it always existed in places that served a purpose as practical as it was evil.

There is no practical reason to treat the Elves this way. All they're tasked to do is menial labor that Wizards can casually wave a hand to do. Or imbue inanimate objects with the ability to carry out their assigned purpose. We see it all over hogwarts. Brooms that sweep on their own. Books that shelve and organize themselves.

It's like the only reason the Elves exist is to prove all Wizards suck. lol.

Is this explained in any logical way in the books? Or was it just exaggerated for this game?

Slavery still exists in the Middle East so it STILL exists.

It's not about slavery or race. It's about there is bad people and good people in the world. It sounds familiar to you?
So then why does Hogwarts have House Elves that aren't free? I mean if you look they don't have clothing the simply have the rags tied with ropes like Dobby had in Chamber of Secrets.
They are still technically enslaved. Even at Hogwarts, however they are treated better.

basically a part of the culture at this point. they genuinely want to serve. and punish themselves actively if they dont.

I think Deek is the best example of a happy house elf. while Scrope is a bad example.

Deek serves you happily and is treated nicely and provided a nice home to boot in the room of requirement.

While Scrope is treated like garbage from professor black and ancestors, even had his ear cut off for not being perfect and he was made to show appreciation for such a thing.

Hermione Granger will fix it. Read the books if you haven't.

They don't want to be free and have clothes. When Hermione wanted to trick them to give them clothes by hiding them, they got so offended that they refused to clean Gryffindor tower anymore.

she never would have, she is not their Master

But she wasn't some hero of House elves. She never took into account their feelings and opinions. They were as pathetic inferior creatures to her mind as any of the people that enslaved a House elf, because she never considered them to have feelings and emotions of their own

SHE was the only one who knew what was best for them, they didn't know what was good for them. She disregarded their opinions and feelings completely and utterly, it didnt 'matter what they thought or felt. And that's just as harmful as any of the abusive masters. She didn't see them as creatures capable of deciding that they were happy doing what they were doing, she was here to force her own way of doing things upon them whether they liked it or not

She had good intentions but Hermione went about it all the wrong ways.

she went about it a very human way. the thing is she forcefully pushed her culturally accepted ideologies on them and they didnt like that.

house elves, centuars etc. they all have different cultures.

This.
For the elves serving is "a good thing", pleasing the master is "being a good elf". Hermione just tried to come, cheat on the rules, say "you're all free ! No masters anymore !" and... Well, so, everything they ever knew, did, wished, all their life, culture, way of thinking, everything was supposed to go *pouf*. That's not something that can work.

So, why elve are badly treated ? To show that you can find bad humans (mostly elitist, pureblooded from a majority ones).
Why are they slave ? Because they're pretty much made for this and unwilling to change that.

House elves are very long-lived. VERY long lived. An individual house elf serves a wizarding family for generations.

They become rather used to how things are and do not necessarily want change - but I would be fairly surprised if they didn't at the start of their service; the worst masters are the Malfoys and their ilk.

I would not be surprised if part of it is a result of Imperio curses. It's not like they wouldn't have used them before they became 'unforgivable' - and possibly after.
