But they’ll probably tell you that you can’t judge something based on the personal views of the creator, or make the excuse that so-and-sos beliefs were a product of the time/culture and we can’t pass judgement on it/them from our “modern perspective”.
Its hilarious because the people that wanted it boycotted inadvertently contributed to the sales figure by drawing attention to it. Streisand effect at its finest.
Its also hilarious because some of the (futile) tactics the boycotters employed included revealing spoilers and witch-hunting streamers that were playing the early access build for the game.
On the flipside you get someone every now and then coming onto the discussion page to complain about that one token TG character in the game as well as how racially varied the characters are in a fantasy game where you fly on brooms and breed unicorns. Whether or not they really hold those opinions matter little in the grand scheme of farming awards and, as you'd expect, garner more attention to the game.
Welcome to the internet, folks.
I only mention it because a lot of the dialogue about this game is over how diverse the game is, and just because they did okay in other places doesn't mean they didn't mess up here. I'd rather they not bother with deliberately making things diverse if the writing gets worse because of it.
Rowling has been misquoted and misrepresented at every turn. She's not what she's accused of. I'm all for inclusion but I'm also for Free Speech and automatically against social media mobs. I bought this game and the movies, partially as a raised middle finger to that mob.
And if we boycotted everything produced or profiting people we disagreed with we'd starve to death.
I do look askance at twitter mobs going after Rowling and want to ask -'You do know who owns and profits from Twitter, right? You do know what he's said on the matter?'
If people are so concerned at not giving people they consider 'bad' on the matter at hand, the first thing they need to do is GTF off Twitter.
Am I supposed to be monitoring my threads 24/7? I got better things to do. I just wanted to bring up a strange issue.
Usually people that make threads are looking for a conversation about the subject, maybe answers to a problem. Or... people just like to post a controversial topic and enjoy watching the sparks fly.
OPs that never get involved further into their own thread tend to lean more on the troll side, even if that was not the intent. Your response to me suggests intent.
Once you start changing history for any reason you run risk of repeating it and thats dangerous.
Shes not wrong though...
Insert DJ Khaled meme.
Nobody is upset, dude. Ok maybe you are, leading with ad homs and all.
Insert other DJ Khaled meme.
How's that straw man working out for you?
I didn't say anything about all right wingers, just the bigots upset about Sirona, a character who's in the game for 30 seconds.
And, yeah, sorry if you're offended I'm not tolerant of intolerance. Oh wait, I'm not sorry about that at all.
even tho JK has nothing to do with the game besides being the
The place was flooded with angry tears, so many unstable people out there from both sides, but mainly the right I have to say. They're the only ones carrying on about wokeism. The rest of us just wanted to talk about the game.
