Do House Points Matter?
As far as I can tell they don't effect anything, even the physical Hour Glasses.

Despite winning all the early game classes, most of which made the professors award me House Points when I angle the camera to look into my house Hourglass it's still empty. But I did get a couple of deductions for Pranks/Going Off Course in the flight class.

Is that why?

It already has been said, that there is no house-point-system, so don't expect the glasses to match your points, it's just a cosmetic asset

Keep in mind that its very much not a Hogwarts Student Simulator. You're a magical badass hero (with a civil temperament) who happens to be a 5th year student at Hogwarts.

No house points, it's just flavor.
You're not in school, you're on an adventure.

I will only say this, if they didn't matter for Harry Potter that should tell you something.

The game would be infinitely more fun if House Points mattered. This would mean dialogue decisions would matter. Right now, there's literally no reason to select one choice or the other, the outcome is the same.

easily could be something they add winning the house cup if you play as a good person and generally do good during your classes OR lose the housecup if you are a bad person and dont follow the rules in class (flying away when told not to) etc

Literally no point to have it, you could just farm points to circumvent all your bad/evil choices. So might as well not have it, you know what you did anyway with your choices.
Plus you have all the other student npcs, aka you're asking that non of them would literally not matter at all for existing in the school.

The point system would only be useful, if it was an mmo of sorts, with weekly, monthly resets or whatever.

no all they would have to do is have points be given or taken dependent on non-refundable choices in the game that cant be farm.

*every class (you only experience these once)
*whether or not you get caught in the stealth section during one quest
*whether or not a professor sees you use a curse.
*the ending you choose (good gives points bad takes away)
